About this listen
The vagabond is dead, killed by the global tourist!
Inspired by The Stranger by Albert Camus, The Vagabond is an indictment of mass tourism and tourists in the post-modern world that is erroneously seeking to create connection and belonging through conformity and consumption – on a global scale.
Set in modern day Rome, Bob, a tourist from the USA, has a fateful encounter with a hedonistic vagabond who triggers Bob’s own unconscious insecurities around his own unexamined and unremarkable life.
Deluded by his own false sense of superiority and entitlement, Bob is controlled by his own neurotic thoughts; demanding respect where he shows none–and getting little in return, culminating in the senseless killing of another tourist.
Against the backdrop of the absurdity and alienating effects of the modern tourist industry, The Vagabond exposes the hollowing-out effects of the hit and run, Insta-tourism culture that has taken over immersive travel and asks the reader to make a stand for meaning.
