About this listen

"Virtues? What could possibly be good about growing old?" That's the response former President Jimmy Carter received when he mentioned the title of this book. Indeed, the thought of aging causes people to worry about the physical aspect of it as well as the prejudice that exists toward the elderly. Carter demonstrates, however, that there are indeed virtues to aging, exploring the possibility of spiritual and intellectual growth in old age. This inspirational audio version is narrated by Carter himself.

I really enjoyed this book. He explains aging well and gives great advice. I like that he also discusses sex during senior citizen years.

Loved his candor

Complete honesty from , of all things, a former president of the U. S. Probably along with Barack Obama, the only truly honest man who has held the office. Not a player, not devious enough to “ fit In”. A good inspiring read . Filled with knowledge and worth while advice. I had some trouble with his staccato style of reading and the southern accent. But will definitely read more of his books.

Sincerity and honesty

I really enjoy it when the author of a book is the narrator - this one especially. It was a joy to have Jimmy Carter speaking life advice into my own life. In my early 60s, I'm feeling the 'aging' part of the story. This book is written years ago, but it's great to see how the Carters have lived the advice in this book and shine as examples of a life well-lived. I am encouraged to do the same! Thank you, President Carter, for leading us well into this unknown territory!

A very worthy "read"...

We are fated to grow old...it is a wealth to have a long life...an amazing man who has lived one of the greatest lives ever in so many ways (President, loving and beloved husband, regular guy, great friendships, always meaning and purpose in life) suggests to the rest of us how we too can have our best lives and enjoy our time on earth for what it is...an adventure, a challenge, an enjoyment, a thrill...

for anyone 12-112...this is a wise comforting read

This is a must read/listen for all of us who are getting older. The former President tells us what good there is in aging and gives us more than hope. He truly has aged gracefully. You can listen to the entire book in one sitting, and President Carter reads the book himself.

A Must for the Aging

Light filled sharing of a productive life by a thoughtful and reflective President Jimmy Carter. Interestingly he mentioned making eye contact with his customers… our memory of his book signing was extremely engaging. Thank you. Your light is illuminating.
