About this listen

The Watergate Rhymes aims to educate, reflect, and learn from that consumptive scandal, while using satire to see the humor in the human frailties of that maligned administration - and in ourselves, all with the perspective and understanding that only precious time enables. This audiobook is truly humorous, and it refreshes memories or creates a new landscape for the historical time traveler. This is a great book for History and English classes of all levels.

Would you listen to The Watergate Rhymes: The Entire Watergate Story again? Why?

Yes. I LOVED the poetic narratives - so interesting, educational and "pleasant" to the ears. I could listen to this several times because I would pick up additional facts, previously missed, with each listening. There is so much information there.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Watergate Rhymes: The Entire Watergate Story?

I really enjoyed "Protesting Too Much." It is so like politications, of all eras, to deny, deny, deny - when confronted with indefensible truths. We're seeing this in today's Presidential campaign for the 2017 election. Lee does a wonderful satirical job of describing Nixon's incessant claims to innocence - funny stuff.

Which character – as performed by Lee G. Lovett – was your favorite?

I enjoyed Lee's portrayal of John Dean and Gordon Liddy. Accomplished, serious and respected characters in their day - Lee does a wonderful job in bringing out the humor of their shenanigans.

What’s the most interesting tidbit you’ve picked up from this book?

Honestly, I had no idea that 48 people served prison time due to Watergate. That was astonishing to me and really drove home the number of co-inspirators involved in this bungled burglary.

Any additional comments?

The Watergate Rhymes is a one-of-a-kind book. The blend of history, humor, poetry and nostalgia is truly wonderful - and especially in audible format. Lee's use of poetic satire was truly meant for the listener, even more than for the reader. I recommend the book, but I enjoyed the audible version even more!
