It’s hard for me to like this story. I mean, on the one hand, we *do* get a neat little tale about some mutant wildlife making our dear Weller’s life difficult. But on the other hand....cicadas. I like cicadas, and their crunchy crispy shells. And I dislike “shoot first, ask questions later” personalities. Right from the first mutant appearance, Matt blundered like the dumbest of dumbasses, and, well....I couldn’t help rooting for the bugs.

Matt, why you so dumb?

This was a great short story but it ended prematurely. Which is why only 4 stars for story. I want more. Which really is the best way to end a story in some ways.

Gritty, action packed.... look forward to more tales of the Weller.

As for the the narrator, he was great. I think he captures the character well.
