About this listen

England 1296

Losing her mother to the witch’s noose and her father to those who placed her there, Lady Edyth DeVries flees for her life into the wilds of Scotland. With all her hopes pinned upon reuniting with the only family left to her, Edyth is tormented as a keeper of a dangerous secret, one that she is only just beginning to unravel.

As King Edward I of England dismantles loyalties and spills innocent blood, she traverses the deadly landscape with little hope of success. On all sides bitter conflict looms yet help comes from an unlikely source. But can Edyth trust Ewan, the heroic young Scots knight, with her secret or with her heart?

Recommend

I was not prepared for this book to be back in the renaissance time. The detail of the characters and environment was very well written. Was able to understand what was happening and anticipating what was going to happen. I can't wait to read the next book from this author.

I was given this book for free in return for my review in my own words.

A Fun and Entertaining Read

I really enjoyed the story and felt the narrator did an excellent job bringing the story to life. I also listened to the audiobook while I was in Scotland, so that may have helped. ;) The story is entertaining and well written. I plan on reading the rest of the series, which is high praise indeed.

Engaging from start to finish

I started reading this book a couple months ago, but got busy with work and life. (As many of us do). The book was fantastic and I needed to know how it ended. Once I heard there was an audiobook, I knew I had to listen to it and I am so glad that I did.
I loved the story and the way it was narrated. With just under 2 hr left I had to turn it off and walk away for a moment because I was so emotionally invested and feared the worst for our MCs.
I won’t spoil the ending. I’ll just say that everything was wrapped up nicely and I left feeling so thankful that I came across this book.
Absolutely loved this story and will highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys Historical Romance. Normally I read YA dystopian romance or modern romance, but this book definitely made me a fan of a new genre.

UPDATED: Excellent Historical Romance

SORRY, I felt compelled to write this update and correct a mistake. I was reading another book at the same time and, well...

Lady Edyth falls on very hard times after her mother is hanged as a witch and her father murdered for association. As the villagers come for her, 2 of her friends are killed covering her escape. All this because a priest rapes a young girl and Edyth's family calls him out for it. Things don't get any better from Edyth until she is rescued by Ewan, a leader of one of the Scot clans. Naturally, unnatural attraction ensues. This book is very accurate to the customs, religion and history of England/Scotland 1296 AD. The romance is slow-burn, but the action and drama are fast moving.

Adventure, romance, heresy, healing all in one

An honest review for a free copy. I will be fully honest: the book kept a good pace, but when faced with what seemed a sure rape, I was going to put the book down. I am not delusional but also don't enjoy reading about all details. But when saved from the English soldiers, I wanted to know more. To go through the challenges, the struggles, the highs and lows of the storyline were all worth it. Very well written, and I enjoyed listening.

Accused of bring a witch

I enjoyed this listen. It was preformed very well and the story was interesting. She isn't a witch but is being accused of being one so that a corrupt priest can get rid of her his last witness. She flees to Scotland and finds help in unexpected places. Will she find love? Will he priest get away with his crimes? Romance is fade to gray no spice.

Interesting story!

This story reminded me of Outlander, but with a strong Christian theme. It's a slow burn romance where the guy gets the girl in the end...but she doesn't make it easy.

p.s. The narrator was awesome!

Excellent Listen

This was a pick outside my typical genres and I’m so glad I listened to it. The story captured me very quickly. I loved the main characters and how the story slowly built but was still exciting and constantly kept me engaged. The narrator was perfect and really helped me get lost in Edith’s world. I definitely recommend this book and am looking forward to listening to the next installment!
