Publisher's summary

Mary Stewart's stunning Arthurian saga that began with The Crystal Cave, The Hollow Hills, and The Last Enchantment continues with The Wicked Day, the story of the clash between King Arthur and his bastard son, Mordred.

Born of an incestuous relationship between King Arthur and his half-sister, and prophesied by Merlin to kill Arthur, Mordred is stolen away from his mother and raised in secrecy by a kind couple on an isolated Orkney island in the hopes that he will defy his fate.

Mordred, known to history as a traitor and a murderer, is no villain, but a quick-witted young man, with hopes and dreams of his own. But try as he might, Mordred cannot escape Merlin's prophecy.

His mother, the evil sorceress Morgause, tracks her son down and takes him back, then feeds the flames of Mordred's ambition, setting into motion a chain of events that will go down in history - and legend - as father and son are finally forced to confront each other one last time: on the wicked day of destiny, when Arthur's final battle will be fought.

Amazing series

I recently found off about Mary Stewart and this gym of a series.
I didn’t think anything could top Cornwell’s Arthur and Merlin series but she’s definitely given him a run for his money.
Amazing storytelling , kept me hooked throughout all 4 books.
Bravo

A beautiful and sorrowful tale.

A story that tugs at your heartstrings and even as you know and dread the ending, you wish it could be different.

Great book for Mary Stewart fans

I love the Merlin series so decided to listen to it. I love Mary Stewart’s writing and historical research, I wasn’t thrilled to hear of Arthur’s death but the character of Mordred was a different story than the usual and Stewart provides the historical background at the end of the book. So again, a great piece by Mary Stewart!

Another take on Camelot

I feared I would not like this book as much as I liked the first three, but as it happened, I couldn't really put it down. It was a fresh look at the "villain" Mordred. Mary Stewart gives him the benefit of the doubt and gives the story a wonderful positive twist for him. I enjoyed it very much

I wasn’t sure what to expect…

I was nervous going into this book knowing it is from Mordred’s perspective and fearing Joe thing will end. It is ultimately beautiful and I need not have feared that I wouldn’t enjoy this journey too! If you enjoyed the Merlin Trilogy you will love this also!

review

what a wonderful series wish there were more series like this. However, the most important is the narrator, who can make or break a story bringing it to life and pulling one into the adventures. perkins does this and more, I cannot rate him high enough. Thank you to the author and narrator.

Awesome retelling of King Authur

Always avoided reading King Authur stories. Glad I listened to this one. Well written and performed. Enough changes to make it interesting.

A Reasonable Telling

This is the only of the four books in the Arthurian Saga that I had not already read. While the first three focused on the life of Merlin, this one focused on the life of Mordred. It is interesting to note that none of the books in the Arthurian Saga actually focused on Arthur. I do not mind that so much and have taken them for what they are. Even though the scraps of legend upon which this book was based more readily tie into known history, I find it impossible to accept any lustful desire of Mordred for the queen. Nor am I apt to believe that after years of clear minded thinking and proven trust, Arthur would think ill of of his son and heir. The transition of Mordred from loyal subject to traitor felt clumsy and rushed. Never the less, I am pleased that the final battle between the two did still begin by the accidental signal of a knight and not by the king or his son. What I did miss was the promised return of King Arthur when Britain needs him again.

greatest Author series

The GREATEST Author/Merlin story written in present day.
The four books that make up series are ALL engrossing.
You are taken to a Britain shaped and just as quickly left by Rome.
Merlin is far more then a finger twitching mage. Author would be NOTHING without all that Merlin gave to him.
I have read (before audio apps) this series again & again, & again.
When I discovered the series on an audio app, it was the second book/s I bought & have been enjoying every since.
