About this listen
The latest Zeb Clemens supernatural western novel is here!
Deputy Marshal Zeb Clemens usually goes out looking for trouble—but sometimes, it finds him first.
The town of Silver Mesa seemed ideal for him: not too large, not too small, neither too remote nor too close to civilization… and even a woman he fancies. It’s the perfect hometown for a man who cannot die.
For Zeb, death is a painful inconvenience… provided he keeps a particular ancient goddess happy. Having to hunt down not-so-mythical beasts every so often is a small price to pay.
Strange things start happening right in Zeb’s backyard after the arrival of the town’s newest resident. People are talking. This young woman is too young to have the money she seems to have. She’s too old to not be married. She’s too pretty, and far too independent. She’s avoiding Pastor Eli’s church, and worst of all, she moved into a house outside town that everyone knows is cursed by evil.
People are talking. They say a witch has come to Silver Mesa. They just might be right.
Deputy Marshal Zeb Clemens doesn’t know what to believe, but one thing is certain: it’s about to get weird.
Luckily, weird is what he knows best.

Story
Two little girls stand with their heads bowed in my living room. I’m told they’re my granddaughters. Daisy is nine, and Alice seven. Daisy is the spitting image of her mother. This is the first time I’ve met them since my daughter and I fell out after she married that waste of space, Vince. They’ve come to live with me because their mother — my daughter — was murdered. In her own home while they slept close by. I think Vince killed her. But the police can’t prove it. I’ve always known he was no good. He treated my daughter like dirt. I said he’d cheat on her — but she wouldn’t listen.

Story
Who is Audrey Hoedemaker? It's a question her sister Maureen has heard more times than she can count, and she doesn't know what the short answer would be. Little sister, troubled teen, backpacker, musical theatre coach, con artist, childcare worker. Murderer. A tragic, traumatic childhood casts a long shadow on the Hoedemaker sisters. Maureen has worked hard to move beyond the violence of the past and build a good, honest life for herself. Audrey, however, just can't seem to do the same, careening from one state of chaos to another.

Story
Lucas knows the perfect night entails just three things: video games, wine, and pad thai. Peanuts are a must! Other people? Not so much. Why complicate things when he’s happy alone? Then one day the apartment board, a vexing trio of authority, rings his doorbell. And Lucas’s solitude takes a startling hike. They demand to see his frying pan. Someone left one next to the recycling room overnight, and instead of removing the errant object, as Lucas suggests, they insist on finding the guilty party. But their plan backfires. Colossally.

Story
It’s 1984, and life has changed beyond recognition. Airstrip One, formerly known as Great Britain, is a place where Big Brother is always watching, and nobody can hide. Except, perhaps, for Winston Smith. Whilst working at the Ministry of Truth, rewriting history, he secretly dreams of freedom. And in a world where love and sex are forbidden, where it’s hard to distinguish between friend and foe, he meets Julia and O’Brien and vows to rebel.

Story
The 13 chapters of The Art of War, each devoted to one aspect of warfare, were compiled by the high-ranking Chinese military general, strategist, and philosopher Sun-Tzu. In spite of its battlefield specificity, The Art of War has found new life in the modern age, with leaders in fields as wide and far-reaching as world politics, human psychology, and corporate strategy finding valuable insight in its timeworn words.

Story
When Heather McKinley dreamed of becoming a doctor, she imagined curing sick kids and sporting pink stethoscopes. She never anticipated the sleepless nights, grueling exams, and endless labs. And she certainly never knew that her medical school earned the nickname Dead Med thanks to the tragic history of students overdosing on illegal drugs. But Heather would never consider doing anything like that. That is, until her longtime boyfriend dumps her, she finds herself failing anatomy, and her world starts to crumble.

Story
Don’t get me wrong. I love magic, just not when it is used for evil. It’s bad enough when some poor soul is murdered in my hometown, but when he’s near and dear to someone I care about, I have no choice but to look for the killer. Since magic seems to be involved in his death, my teenage cousin and I might be the only ones who can discover the killer’s identity. After all, we are witches. I was hoping this would be a run-of-the mill case, but no. The number of suspects keeps mounting, making our job more difficult. Considering most suspects live across the state makes it doubly hard...

All I want to do is get the hell out of Dodge. In this case, ‘Dodge’ is the First Gate of the Underworld, which is like the sister city to Level One, Hell. But it’s not like I can leave anytime soon—not when Adonis, my only friend (who’s also super hot), just got dude-napped by the absolute worst queen in the history of queens. No, I mean it. Azrhea puts Bloody Mary to shame… Anyhoo, even when I’m given the chance to escape and head to the Second Gate of the Underworld, I don’t take it. Not only do I want to rescue Adonis from the clutches of She-Bitch, but I also sort of, ...

Vampire private eye Samantha Moon doubts Detective Sherbet's new homicide case is the work of a vampire... until she sees the body. Ever since that night in Hillcrest Park so long ago, Samantha Moon knew her life would be far from ordinary. She never expected the weirdest part would be watching her kids turn into adults. Terrible narrator
The narrator was awful: disjointed, mechanical, no differentiation between characters, no or incorrect inflections. I couldn’t force myself to finish the book
