In a small Oklahoma town, riddled with broken dreams and methamphetamine addicts, a young man embarks on a mission to uncover the truth behind his sister's disappearance. As he desperately attempts to come to terms with his sister's apparent death, and the circumstances surrounding it, he inadvertently opens a Pandora's Box of secrets that an array of townsmen have diligently worked to keep covered.
Based on an unwavering promise to his beloved sister, Davey will stop at nothing to find the answers he so desperately seeks. In the process, however, he quickly learns that the truth is much more brutal and bizarre than anything he could have ever imagined. As he delves deeper into the mystery, Davey is left questioning everything he thought he knew about his baby sister as he attempts to come to grips with the cruel and undeniable truth.

What did you love best about The Year the Lake Went Low?
I loved the overall story. I was on the edge with the character trying to unravel the mysteryWho was your favorite character and why?
Davey was great. This is a book that causes a lot of reflection about getting to know the people you love better! What about Scott Ellis’s performance did you like?
It was steady and I could always tell when there was a different character talking other than Davey. If people think it is slow, they can always increase the speed of the narration. If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

This book starts off pretty slow moving, but the pace does pick up about half way through. I think I would consider this somewhat more along the lines of slice of [depressing] life. The Year the Lake Went Low wasn’t particularly to my liking, but I still give it 4 stars because it is well written and well researched, and it evokes a lot of emotions, which isn’t that easy to find in books these days.

Slow reading of a slow book

In general the characters were pretty well thought out and believable. The story was good though at times it seemed to lose focus. The book needs some editing as words were used incorrectly and it had grammatical errors. Narration was clear but a bit exaggerated I think.
I did find it interesting that visual descriptions of the female characters were quite descriptive yet the male characters were not. I still am not clear on the appearance of the leading character, also many people in the book described him as having a bright future yet there was no mention of why they would think so.

I felt the Narrator did an outstanding job in bringing each character to life. Each character was uniquely distinctive, never leaving me guessing which character was speaking. The story never got slow moving, which is another thing I look for in a good book. I felt like I was right there!
I would highly recommend this book to all adults, especially parents, and to older teens, especially those considering experimenting with drugs.
