Publisher's summary
The first in a new series from the author of Geekomancy (pop culture urban fantasy) and Shield and Crocus (New Weird superhero fantasy).
Jacob Greene was a sweet boy raised by a loving, tight-knit family... of cultists. He always obeyed, and was so trusted by them that he was the one they sent out on their monthly supply run (food, medicine, pig fetuses, etc.). Finding himself betrayed by them, he flees the family's sequestered compound and enters the true unknown: college in New York City. It's a very foreign place, the normal world and St. Mark's University. But Jacob's looking for a purpose in life, a way to understand people, and a future that breaks from his less-than-perfect past. However, when his estranged sister arrives in town to kick off the apocalypse, Jacob realizes that if he doesn't gather allies and stop the family's prophecy of destruction from coming true, nobody else will...

Story
A bad best man’s speech can ruin a wedding. Why do we plan every detail of a perfect day and then give the groom’s idiot best friend five minutes of total power? Enter Nate (Glen Powell), a speechwriter-for-hire who helps people write incredible best man speeches. To keep the best man from embarrassing himself (and the newlyweds), Nate uses his list of don’ts: Don’t mention the exes, don’t be rated R, and don’t bum everyone out. Nate’s system never fails. That is, until he meets Dan (Nicholas Braun).

Traumatized by the bombing of Dresden at the time he had been imprisoned, Pilgrim drifts through all events and history, sometimes deeply implicated, sometimes a witness. He is surrounded by Vonnegut's usual large cast of continuing characters (notably here the hack science fiction writer Kilgore Trout and the alien Tralfamadorians, who oversee his life and remind him constantly that there is no causation, no order, no motive to existence).

Story
Alice's journey begins as all good journeys do: hitting on the sales guy at REI. After a tumultuous breakup, a quick career transition, family upheaval, and a sobriety journey that didn't fix her life quite as much as she expected it to, Alice decides that the only way to solve all her problems is to hike the Pacific Crest Trail. But as she begins preparing for the months-long quest, she realizes the answers she's seeking might not be on top of a snow-covered mountain. Especially since she just learned there was snow in California.

Wonderful story twist to keep your attention...
What did you love best about The Younger Gods?
The Younger Gods is an Urban Fantasy title definately worth a read or listen. The main character, Jacob Green, just wants to live a normal life...and unfortunately the past of his family and roots refuse to let that happen.
What did you like best about this story?
The awkwardness of Jacob's character as he works with those drawn into stopping the apocalypse his estranged sister kicks off is endearing...in an odd way.
Have you listened to any of Luke Daniels’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I'm looking foward to the continuation of this story and hopefully Luke Daniels will continue to narrate the Audiobook versions. Daniels adds an additional level of character to tie this book together nicely and his versitility to give each person within a book still amazes me. His performance in this title is as excellent as the other's I've picked up in the past.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Family, it can raise you up...or drive you mad...
Any additional comments?
This is one of the best new titles I've picked up to take a chance on and I wasn't disappointed. I was hooked from the beginning and left both amused and questioning what happens next at the end.

Not bad! Wish i had listened sooner! Hopes book 2!
Because of the reviews being about 50/50 as far as this books worth goes, I left this book in my wish list for over a year. But today, i had 3 credits and said, why not, i'll give it a chance. And boy am I glad I did!
This book is much better than the mundane reviews lead you to believe. First off Luke Daniels as the narrator is amazing, as always. Any book I listen to and he is the narrator I can expect greatest. He did an awesome job with every character.
The story is different, in a good way. Yes it has its typical magic troupes, but Jake's life is far from the ordinary protagonist. His family's evil background was an interesting upbringing and their methods to destroying the world with Jake trying to stop them made for an epic tale. The friends Jake made on the way only helped add to the story. Each character was awesome and getting to know them while trying to stop Jake's family all aligned so smoothly. I wanted to know more about the magic in this world, there were so many different moving parts, but the book was fast pace trying to stop the world from ending, so it was understandable that everything wasn't explained. I would love a second book, learning more about Annette's power and Carters as well as others with the continuation of this story.
I was sad when the book was over, as I was left wanting more. I was equally sad to see that there had been no second book after so many years have gone by. I can only hope the author will come back to this one day. I am excited to see what happens with Jake and his friends!

Maybe it's just me - You'll probably like it
This was a solid attempt at a new fantasy. I feel like it has everything you'd like in a fantasy series. Magical main character with Family issues. Non Magical knight being all knightly. Smart witted, clever friend who has a bit of talent in magic. Villians who aren't afraid to kill (a lot) with a family connection to main character. Vampires, werewolves, witches, wraithes, college, knights, etc. And finally a modern city ready to fight for it's life.
Everything right, but in reality, it just didn't roll off the tongue like you'd like. I want it to be good, but I just can't say that it was. It certianly wasn't bad, it just didn't have the depth or desire that you'd like it to have. But maybe it's just me. You'll probably like it.
Narrator was fine I guess. Nothing special. You certainly couldn't blame him for anything which is saying something.
