Publisher's summary

Right guy, wrong time.

Laney Hawton has a difficult life. She takes care of her younger brother, Dustin, because honestly? Who else will? Her mother is a menace, more interested in chasing unavailable men than raising children. And her older brother Cary is... Well. Anyway.

When Laney meets Shane, her whole world is turned upside down. But what do you do when you meet your soul mate at fourteen?

Right girl, wrong life.

Shane Mathers is chronically between couches, scraping by on the unexpected charity of a ten-year-old boy named Dustin. Through a violent twist of fate, Shane meets Laney and can't decide if the universe has finally given him a break, or just offered him his total demise, all wrapped up in an irresistible four-foot-something package that makes his knees buckle.

Fate is a cruel mistress, and she has it in for Shane. He knows that nothing this good comes without a price. The question is, will he survive it?

This is a gritty, slow-burn romance that takes place over several years in the late nineties.

WOW!

This book was so amazing! Everything about this was insane but in the best way possible! The story, the romance, the twist and turns this story took me through, the emotions. I am not happy about the cliff hanger because I want more of this story but I can’t wait for book 2 ❤️‍🔥

Wow! This book is addicting !!!

-slow burn
-forbidden love
-90s nostalgia
-ANGST !!
-found family
-soul mates

Wow, this book was addicting and loved the 90s references.

The book starts with an article about a murder that happened the day before Christmas. We don’t know who the person is who died as the story goes back two years before the event.

This book was so addicting and I cannot wait for book 2!

10/10 recommend!! Listen Now!!

First of all, i cannot take credit for finding this book. All the credit for that goes to Ashley a.k.a. @dark.romance.wh0re on IG! So thankful to her for posting about this book, because I loved every. Freaking. Second of it!! Think 90’s nostalgia, grunge music & fashion, landline phones. The author describes her writing style as if Penelope Douglas and Karin Slaughter had a 3some with Kurt Cobain! SAY LES!! Shane and Laney have my whole entire heart. I immediately fell in love with them. We start out knowing that we’re dealing with a murder mystery, which was always in the back of my mind, and it added so much to the story and kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. I usually do not enjoy a slow burn, but this was the exception. It was so well written that I actually enjoyed it. It was giving angst, it was giving frustration (I’m looking at you Shane!😑) but in the BEST way! Like, stop torturing yourself, & us, Shane!! But when the slow burn ended, it ended in a hot, fanning yourself, panty melting fashion! 🥵 I’ll just say it was definitely worth the wait! These characters made me feel all the feels. And Laney’s brother Dustin….ughhh….my heart. He was just so precious. Those three were so in tune with each other, it was giving destined found family! Laney’s older brother Carey, very much p!ssed me off and creeped me out a little. IYKYK! Layne’s mother was giving absent mother, popping in and out whenever she felt like it, staying gone for months on end. She cared very much about her looks and tried to project that onto Laney, which p!ssed me off as well. I adored Jerry, who became a sort of father figure to Shane, Laney, & Dustin. And just when I thought i had predicted how it was going to end, the rug was pulled out from under me, proving to me that i didn’t know sh!t! 😂 I was yelling in my living room to no one! lol Anyway, I was hooked rom the very beginning and the story MORE than kept my attention throughout. I listened to the audiobook version because I had so much to do at home but I couldn’t wait to devour this story! Sometimes when i listen to audiobooks while doing other things, I have to go back and relisten to some parts because I got distracted. NOT WITH THIS BOOK! Even with the multiple POVs (which I LOVED btw). I actually found that the AUDIOBOOK distracted me from whatever task I was doing! I got so caught up in it that I found myself just standing there, staring off into space, listening to it! The narration by Jessie Elwin was really great! She did a great job voicing the multiple characters. Listen, I could go on and on so I’ll end it here and say GO READ THIS BOOK!! I’d give this book a million stars if I could!. 10/10 recommend!

Ahhhhmazing

I already read the ebook twice before listening but it was just as amazing! Jessies voice is perfect for the story and really brought it to life. One of my top favorite reads of the year and probably for years to come. Alex is an autobuy for me!
