About this listen

First published in 1987, this book was one of a very small handful that passed on a renewed revelation of how to understand Scripture and LGBTQ inclusion in the Christian church. At that time, almost no mainstream denominations were openly inclusive of LGBTQ people, neither in membership nor in ministry. Very few people were preaching a gospel of inclusion.
Things They Never Told You in Sunday School took what had been explained in rather complicated detail by some others and organized the information into a layperson’s, easy to understand journey that walked simply through the Bible explanations, and scholarship.
The book was sold in a number of countries. It found its way into homes, churches, libraries and schools of Divinity and Theology. Original copies of Things have been priced online for as much as sixty dollars.
Even though printing stopped in 1988, customer comments appeared at online book sellers until as recently as 2014:
  • 2005: If you know someone who is struggling with the religious aspect of their sexuality, this book is a must. It is gentle, and thoughtful, and a breath of relief for any Catholic who has been through that moment of fear or doubt. God belongs to you, too, regardless of your sexuality. It might not heal all the wounds, but it will help you understand why people think the way they do, especially if they are Catholic.
  • 2014: When struggling with my homosexuality as a young Christian, I happened upon this book and it made a huge difference in my life. I'm sorry that it is out of print, but thankful to have found another copy. I like to loan it out to others in the same circumstances.
Since this book was first published, scores of writings on LGBTQ and the Bible have been offered to the reading public.

Lamenting that no version of the book has ever been published in digital form, the author is offering this exclusive revised and updated version and priced it for maximum distribution.
It represents one of the most simple, candid and straightforward reads on the topic that has ever been presented and one that has already had an untold influence on LGBTQ inclusion and Christianity. This new more modernized offering brings updated commentary, insights and resources to support the original concepts told so many years ago. It remains a pathway for understanding for LGBTQ people, as well as all those who seek deconstruction and reconstruction of long-held beliefs biased by patriarchal prejudices.
