About this listen

A Horror Story About Love...

The year is nineteen seventy one. Lost deep in the woods of West Virginia, two childhood friends discover a book that dismantles and unravels everything they once considered reality, and when an enigmatic stranger rolls into their small coal mining town in the back of a Rolls Royce, the teenagers are plunged deep into a world of drugs, sex, music, and violence.

Together, the two friends confront the forces of good and evil head on—the unwitting pawns of an eternal game played without rules or directions. Badder than Louisiana lightning, flyer than Sly Stone on a seven-forty-seven jumbo jet, feverish, satirical, and deliciously dark: Three Sixes and A Forked Tongue or Cold Medicine and a Liar is an offbeat, coming-of-age, face-melting novel unlike anything you've heard before.

Went in blind and loved the ride

Character driven stories are my favorite and the folks in this one are excellent. If blasphemy or racism makes you uncomfortable, be warned. Not a perfect tale but strange and good in all the right ways.

Intense and magical

Interesting! Took a few chapters for me to get really into it but once I did I listened to the whole thing in know time at all.

Vivid storytelling, strong visuals, deep heart

This is one of my favorite books of all time. I read the hard copy, and couldn’t wait for the author’s narration! This story has been so healing to my inner child. I will definitely be reading it again. And again!

Witty, dark, and original

3 Sixes and a Forked Tongue does an incredible job of pulling you into its world and making you believe every word. The dialogue and diction are so unmistakably West Virginia that it’s easy to forget these are characters in a book and not real people you might meet in a small mountain town. The story takes unexpected turns at every corner, keeping me thoroughly engaged for half of my drive from California back to my home among the hills.

I loved recognizing many of the places described, and in a conversation afterward, the author confirmed the real city that inspired Clockmaker, West Virginia. The story’s originality and pace kept me entertained right to the finish line. After listening, I reached out to the author for a bonus hour of Q&A—it was such a great experience, he should consider including it as part of future editions! Honestly, I’d love to see this story made into a movie someday.

A must for any fans of rural Appalachia!

The imagery is truly professional! Accurately brings to life the culture and grit of the Mountain State. Narration and production are world class! Bravo!

My new favorite

10/10, must listen audio book! The story telling is so good, so descriptive and detailed. The twists and turns will leave you wanting to listen for hours at a time, or like me, sitting in your car in your driveway much longer than normal. The ties to music throughout are **chefs kiss.
