About this listen

If you want to discover the captivating life of Tiberius, then pay attention....

Compared with the preceding rulers, Julius Caesar and Augustus, the name does not ring out with the same fame and pomposity. Shakespeare wrote no plays about Tiberius; his name does not echo in the history books with the same awe-inspiring prominence. Even his successors, Caligula and Nero, are more famous than he was. In fact, Tiberius can hardly be called famous at all. History knows him more for his infamy.

Tiberius is remembered, if he is remembered at all, for his bad behavior. He spent much of his rule on a Greek island surrounded by every pleasure that his diseased flesh could dream of, abandoning his empire to scandal and intrigue. He is a great villain of Roman history.

In Tiberius: A Captivating Guide to the Life of Ancient Rome's Second Emperor and How He Ruled the Roman Empire, you will discover topics such as:

  • Before the Emperors
  • Born into Turmoil
  • The Eye of the Emperor
  • In the Shadow of Augustus
  • First Conquest
  • Forced Marriage
  • Rock Bottom
  • Ascension
  • A Slippery Slope to Capri
  • The Last Javelin
  • And Much, Much More!

Perfect

First of all, I purchased this book for a Classic Civilization class that I'm currently enrolled in that is solely dedicated to the Roman Emperor Nero, his reign, and the ultimate fall of the Julio-Claudian empire.

Great Info

A book that gives you information that was not learned in previous history settings. A book that is short but informative.

Described Well

Not an easy book as the author writes only facts and events as he interprets them. I liked listening to the little blurb about Christians that he inserts. Small but very enlightening as to how they were viewed at the time.

Fantastic experience.

Listening to this book was a fantastic experience. There is a reason why he has had such a profound impact on European history and literature. If you don't like listening to violence and corruption, this is not the book for you.

Tiberius

This book is about what happens after Augustus. It begins with a welcome and brief history of Rome, from unnamed village to the beginnings of the empire, providing a context to the tragic life of Tiberius which is continually controlled and altered because of Augustus.

Chatty for a history.

Chatty for a history. Lots of characters and almost gossipy details. Definite bias against Tiberius and for Germanicus.

This book is wonderful

This book is wonderful; it explains the history of Rome and its rulers from the time of the twins Romulus and Remus. It also explains the complex machinations of the early rulers (including Julius Ceasar) and why the citizens were unwilling to have an emperor.
