About this listen

This book 'Til Money Do Us Part: Marriage of Convenience to a Refugee is about my ex-husband from Congo who married me to get South African citizenship and my wealth. We got married in 2004 and he left in November 2012 promising to come back. He stayed by his friend for about a week before going to Congo. By that time I was sick, heavily bleeding, unable to find work, could not find business and was staying in an English man’s property for free. The owner had dogs and I cleaned up the yard. He was not happy about this but I’m not someone who seats back and do nothing. I asked Katalay to clean the yard and he said “babe, my father was a very wealthy man. I’m not used to clean up dog mess. I don’t clean up yards because I don’t know how to”. I’m not writing this book to criticize my x-husband but to show the reader what some of the refugees are capable of doing to get citizenship and money. He stayed with me until I could no longer generate money. He was cruel enough to sweep all my wealth to his country and left me homeless, jobless and moneyless. The lifestyle in Jo’burg is very different to Limpopo Province where people still care for one another. In Jo’burg is like everyone for himself. We rented a room in a house where even the kitchen had tenants. We had to share a bathroom with tenants who did not clean it. Some of them wiped themselves with a mop after relieving themselves. Some male tenants urinated in the shower. The place was noisy, some tenants smoked dagga inside their rooms while playing loud music. They came with different women into their room and this was acceptable by the owner. When I complained to Katalay he said I must just endure. It was hard for me when I discovered that Katalay loved my money and not me. He pretended to be suffering with me and L’amour our daughter. He was waiting to see that I cannot generate income anymore to make sure he did not miss out should I make money. I chose the cover page of a goose alone on the beach. The loneliness I experienced. The flooding problems of poverty, sickness, unemployment, homelessness and humiliation. I was loyal to Katalay to my own detriment.Cover Page: Goose alone on the beach. "Common Goose Spirit Animal Meanings. You can learn from the goose spirit animal's bravery and loyalty. During migration season and a goose becomes injured, another goose will break free from the flock to stay behind and be with the injured or fallen goose. This is an incredible display of valor, devotion, and loyalty". Divorce & Separation Relationships Money Marriage Africa
