About this listen

wonderful story, fantastic narration

My first book with Rainer Strecker. He brought the characters to life (no pun intended!).

Lovely story, frustrating music

Any additional comments?

Positives: I read this book as a child in german and fell in love with the story. Now listening to it was great, felt very nostalgic. I loved the story as much as the first time and the narrator did a decent job. I liked the fact that he changed his voice per character and although he did not always manage, tried to keep them the same each time.

Negatives: The narrator sometimes had trouble holding a character but what most frustrated me is that I often listen to audiobooks out loud whilst cleaning etc. I was anxious for every time the music would come as it was so annoying and so loud that I would always have to stop what I was doing to turn it down (trying to avoid annoying everyone around me). I really wish there was an option to purchase this without the music or just to put i off, because it really ruined the experience for me. I bought the second book at the same time and now just got through it with exactly the same feeling. Very frustrating!!

well narrated annoying music between chapters

the annoying music based on the same ridiculous them kept me from fully getting into the story and also relaxing. i forwarded. otherwise i enjoyed the narrator. and the story itself is fun enough and well written for children's/ youth novel

A wonderful story

I first read this story more than a decade ago and was immediately captivated, ultimately reading the entire trilogy. I was thrilled to discover the audiobook - thank you Audible for finally expanding the choices for additional languages.

I had high expectations for the audio version and these were met. The performance was well done.

One addition to the audiobook is music between chapters. In some ways this was a nice, creative addition. I wish, though, that it hadn't been at the expense of all of the great quotes that begin each chapter in print. I also wish the sound engineer had paid closer attention to the volume levels: without exception, the musical interludes were significantly louder than the spoken tracks. In fact, they were so loud that the constant need to adjust the volume became a distraction as well as a nuisance. Instead of the music enhancing the story as it very well could have done, it detracted.

Otherwise, this is a highly recommended story and performance.

Great reading, annoying music

I loved the telling of the story, but the music in between each chapter really bothered me.

I love this book BUT

I have read the series in the original German and in English and was looking forward to this audio book. The musical interludes between chapters are both too long and too loud. I wish this were available without them. It's making one of my favorite books a slog to get through. Boo.

bizarre music

the performance is terrific, but the "music" that plays between chapters is loud and terrible. it's enough to pull you out of the story.

STOP the Music!!! Omg

This music is insanely distracting and completely throws me off the story each time! I HATE it so MUCH !! I can not enjoy the damn actual story! HUGE. dissapointment. I want to know what happens next but then that damn music pops up and it's super looooong loud and an insult to the ears, every few chapters! I have NEVER been so annoyed by an audio book!
