About this listen

It started with a downed Nazi submarine and moved into the jungles of Nicaragua...now, the ultimate plan behind the deadly U-boat cargo and one man’s attempt to seize power in Central America teeters on the edge.

All it takes is a single nudge to tip the balance.... Scott and Lisa are enjoying a sailing race when Jarvis is approached by a Miami business man. Ramon Tavares suspects that his fishing and shipping businesses are being used to smuggle cocaine into the country, and he needs private investigators Scott Jarvis and Lisa Gonzalez to discover who’s behind it before his life’s work is ruined. However, Jarvis soon discovers that there is more behind Tavares’ suspicions...much more.

When men mysteriously break into two safes at the same time, and with the arrival of the enigmatic Colonel Grayson, it becomes clear that something major is in the works and a deadly clock is counting down to disaster...the ultimate plan to utilize the Nazi germs Jarvis discovered off Tampa is finally ready to be put into play...and everything hinges on an extraordinary ancestor of Jarvis’ who lived during the time of napoleon!

Catherine Cook, a 17 year-old woman orphaned during the Revolutionary War, has spent her entire life training and dreaming of the day when she would stand on the quarterdeck of a sailing ship as her captain! Although a preposterous notion in 1797, Kate is thrust into a series of mortal combats in which she must fight for her survival and the survival of her ship.

She must win the key to a distant future in which her progeny must fight against powerful South American drug lords and stop them before the western hemisphere is drowned in white powder and unstoppable greed! Cannons thunder, steel clashes, and tensions explode in this epic ninth novel of the Scott Jarvis Private investigator series! Two narrators, Dave Alexander and Philip Battley, bring the present and the past together in a riveting and nail-biting listen!

Yep, I’m still here, still listening and enjoying every minute. This book is split between an exciting modern Jarvis adventure and an historical Kate Cook sailing ship adventure. Being a huge Hornblower fan it weaved in some characters from those adventures. The narration with the outstanding Dave Alexander telling the Jarvis tale and the new but very excellent Phillip Battley reading the nautical tale of Kate Cook. It took me a few chapters to get use to the weaving and styles, but once I did I was all in. Well I’m taking a short break from Scott Jarvis to download book 8 of the USS Bull Shark series that just came out. You can bet after that adventure is complete I’ll be back listing to Scott Jarvis.

It never gets tiring!

Wow, what a ride! Another great Scott Jarvis crime action story with a twist... the inclusion of the Age of Sail historical adventure really gives this book something special. Dave does his usual good job of bringing Jarvis to life and Philip Battley takes the Kate Cook portions and makes them something truly memorable. I highly recommend this book.

Exciting sea battles, desperate hand to hand fighting and two heroes overcoming enormous odds... humor, intrigue and a lot of surprises!

A brilliant and exciting crime adventure

Another exciting Scott Jarvis page turner, this time with an equally engaging 18th century back story woven in. I’m looking forward to reading more of Catherine Cook’s adventures.

I have enjoyed his writing for quite awhile. He does seem to find little ways to surprise the reader and he did so, so well in this book! This story is unusual because of the location and it has a familiar cast of characters, but, it is the backstory that gets ones attention, going back to the days of wooden ships and iron men and the Sailing ships of the late 18th century!

I appreciate how he has tied in another story line into many of his books, but not so much to detract from the main story. Of course one may mention family members of the main character and it is fair to do so. After all, aren't we a product of our families and enviroment?

If you have not read many of this author's books, you may find this specific title very interesting. I first got introduced to the author with his USS BullShark stories and have gone to read Deckers Raiders and his sea stories from the deep.

Take a chance and listen to one or 2 of them, you will find them enjoyable, and exciting.

Thank you!

What a story he wove here!
