About this listen

In the wake of a fire that decimates his racing stock, Christian Andrews, the Marquess of Amstead, struggles to keep his family's stud farm from slipping into ruin and painstakingly rebuilds the program. When one of his prime stallions is injured, he notices his new assistant trainer has a special way with the horses. As talented as the trainer is, once he realizes he is a she . . . and a very beautiful, spirited she at that . . . he should sack her before scandal breaks. But it's only weeks before the high-stakes race he's counting on to build back his fortune, and Flora should be by his side for the win.

Miserable under the weight of the ton's expectations, headstrong Lady Flora Campbell laments her privileged life in London. Embracing her dream of working with racehorses, she disguises herself as a lad and slips away to learn as much as she can from England's premier expert, Christian Andrews, never thinking of the scandal she courts but the glory to be had.

Although she develops tender feelings for the dashing marquess, she can never let on that she's not only a woman, but the daughter of a duke . . .

Contains mature themes.

My Rating: ❤️❤️❤️.75

General Thoughts This is the second series I've read by this author. I really enjoyed the other series, so I was excited to give this one a go. I've enjoyed this series by Liana, and yet, I haven't loved it. I thought the writing was fine and the story intriguing enough. However, I didn't like a lot of plot points at the end of this one. I felt that one character had been wronged more than the other with the ensuing conflict, and yet the wronged character had to do all the fixing. That always drives me wild. I do love her other series, but this series has had some parts I love and others I do not. If you like regency, give it a go.

Spice Meter: ❤️‍🔥.5 Spicy, not the most detailed but definitely there.

Mostly enjoyable

The characters were so fun and passionate and the narrator did a great job bringing the characters to life

Loved it

The story was saved by the narration. The premise was good but the execution dull. The background story regarding horse training was 8ntetesting at first but there was too much of it, as though we are being tutored. The love story was... also dull. There was sex but little passion & nonexistent romance. The characters were flawed of course but Flora was awful. In the previous books she was head strong but likable. Unfortunately, in this book she was obstinate and obnoxious. Yes there is a HEA but it took such a rambling boring road to get here, I didnt care anymore.

Ok

I found this book to be a bit dull. Plus, I'm not a fan of heroines dressing up like men.
