This title uses virtual voice narration

Virtual voice is computer-generated narration for audiobooks.
On a frontier planet, land is cheap. So is your life.

Tom Savage is intent on homesteading, and Phaethon is the newest planet open for colonization. Here, technology is lacking in many places. And for 200 credits, anyone can claim one square kilometer of prime farmland.

But Tom has a secret or two. He is not interested in farming crops, at least not at first. Tom wants to harvest pieces of Phaethon’s sun.

To do so will mean first reaching his stake out near the desert, surviving human predators along the way, bringing fugitives to justice, and dealing with the resident sand dragon population.

All in a day’s work for your local star farmer…

This book is fun. Free of foul language and sexual content, so safe for young readers/listeners. There are interesting new planet flora, robots, nano-bots, humans with cybernetic alterations, mystery and action. The storyline is easy to follow and keeps the reader/listener engaged.
I am not fond of AI narration, but, this particular AI voice was better than others I've listened to.

Great start to a new SciFi adventure series!

It’s an ok story line not much to develop. The virtual narration sucks though. If your going to have it start and pause in strange places, at least do it like the Captain Kirk.

Nice little amateur story

He used some nice devices to move the story along. Makes me want to hear the 2nd book in the series!

Great for a short book.

I enjoyed Tom's bot assisted homesteading adventure. Riding horses through the countryside after arriving by interstellar spaceship came across as a natural state of affairs. I don't like "cliffhangers".. The story continues, but still presented a satisfactory conclusion.

I prefer real narration, not a fan of AI. aside from that the audio book holds together pretty well bu also purchased the kindle ebook.

good space-opera

Great story. Virtual voice was decent and easy to listen and understand. There were a few disappointing scenes where things could have been handled better.

I was willing to put up with the AI voice because it was a good story. definitely kept my attention and looked forward to listening to it more. but then there was a violent bloody death of a horse. I turned it off right there. sooo disappointed. I don't need to hear stuff like that. now, people who like westerns, probably wouldn't even phase them. but I like cozy sci-fi. I like fantasy books and cozy Mysteries.

one of my favorite series is Bob's Saucer Repair. I like No Stress Space Express by Jack Bodett . the murderbot books are great. there's violence, but there is no violence to animals. I thought this book was going to be like that. and it was well on its way. it's a shame the author had to put in the violent killing of a horse.

The story was engaging, the only thing that kept me going. The artificial voice lacked proper‘feeling’ to the situations. No matter how dramatic or frightening it was read in a cheery tone. Only. Ever. Then there was the boy who stuttered. H h here was pronounced ache ache here instead of eh eh here. Like, you’re kidding me, right!? Never again.

I’ll never listen to artificial voice again
