About this listen
Tom Savage is intent on homesteading, and Phaethon is the newest planet open for colonization. Here, technology is lacking in many places. And for 200 credits, anyone can claim one square kilometer of prime farmland.
But Tom has a secret or two. He is not interested in farming crops, at least not at first. Tom wants to harvest pieces of Phaethon’s sun.
To do so will mean first reaching his stake out near the desert, surviving human predators along the way, bringing fugitives to justice, and dealing with the resident sand dragon population.
All in a day’s work for your local star farmer…
Veteran science fiction and fantasy author, two time Kindle Scout winner Jaxon Reed presents an all new space western set in the Milky Way’s vast frontier! Fistfights, bar brawls, and gun battles pepper this fast-moving and fun romp, with high-tech hijinks meshing with Wild West drama. Download today!

Story
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Benjamin, Mark, and Chloe were all set to graduate college in a few weeks. Ben had ordered a strange object from eBay to use as cover art for a book he was writing. It looked really cool, like a slightly charred old military artifact from 70 years ago. It was possibly part of an engine. After cleaning it up (it was found in a cow field), he placed the strange device on his dorm room desk directly over the wireless charging port. That woke it up. Unknown to him, the disabled starship hiding on the moon could now communicate with the missing part. The ship needed two things: 1) The missing ...

After leaving the medical chamber, Keith thought the long war was over. He had united two warring factions and identified the culprit behind the earlier devastating war. A xenophobic race that was out to destroy all the other races. The problem was that they didn't like that he had uncovered their deception, and they were out for revenge. Then the Earth sent their “secret weapon” out to him. Something that could possibly beat the Meduala at their own game. Unfortunately, her daughter insisted on coming out too. Much of his earlier success was based on help from the AI on his patched-up ...

Space story with a Pioneer twist
I enjoyed Tom's bot assisted homesteading adventure. Riding horses through the countryside after arriving by interstellar spaceship came across as a natural state of affairs. I don't like "cliffhangers".. The story continues, but still presented a satisfactory conclusion.

Great story
Great story. Virtual voice was decent and easy to listen and understand. There were a few disappointing scenes where things could have been handled better.

Great for a short book.
He used some nice devices to move the story along. Makes me want to hear the 2nd book in the series!

I’ll never listen to artificial voice again
The story was engaging, the only thing that kept me going. The artificial voice lacked proper‘feeling’ to the situations. No matter how dramatic or frightening it was read in a cheery tone. Only. Ever. Then there was the boy who stuttered. H h here was pronounced ache ache here instead of eh eh here. Like, you’re kidding me, right!? Never again.
