Publisher's summary

Biologist, wildlife photographer, and tactically trained anti-poaching expert Clayton Porter witnesses what appears to be a routine drug-smuggling flight across the Arizona-Mexico border. Instead, he uncovers a sophisticated operation involving a secret lodge high in the Sierra Madre, canned hunts for endangered jaguars, a ring of opioid-dealing doctors in the US, and a string of cartel victims partially consumed by a large predator.

After Porter unwittingly throws a wrench into the works and those close to him are targeted for vengeance, he embarks on a mission of total retaliation. Get ready for an edge-of-your-armchair ride with Clayton T. Porter, a new kind of action hero who’s as likely to employ a rattlesnake as a rifle against the bad guys.

Critic reviews

"The drug cartel madness of the Borderlands, combined with the corruption of federal agents, is suddenly dropped into the lap of wildlife photographer, biologist, and tactically trained anti-poacher Clayton T. Porter, whose reaction in self defense initiates a cascade of violent events. The discovery of internationally threatened jaguars being employed as executioners by a drug cartel, and used as targets in canned hunts by unscrupulous US physicians, leads to assaults on those closest to Clayton. Buckle up for a wild ride through the hinterlands of southwest Arizona and northwest Mexico as Porter embarks on a journey of total retaliation." (Dexter K. Oliver, author of The Raven’s Beak and Journal of a Wayfaring Writer)

very authentic desert thriller

a very engaging and authentic yarn, full of interesting technical insights, with plot twists and interesting, witty anecdotes sprinkled through out. out. Read by the author, unfortunately, who's reading style is mechanical, but clear and understandable.

Fun, entertaining and educational read

Clayton seems to be an a version of the writer which is a good thing. A native desert rat with an apparent insatiable curiosity makes this a great read. Hopefully it will evolve into a series. This is an undiscovered gem revealed by Stephen Bodio’s blog.

Excellent story!

I love the premise of a bad ass biologists. Trained in the arts of weapons and tactics but still has a soft spot for the defenseless creatures of the world. It doesn’t help that he kicks some cartel booty solidly around the deserts of Mexico. Well done Mr. Hanson, but one question. When is the next iteration of the Clayton Porter saga coming? Soon? Maybe?
