About this listen
In this second book, Tolly returns for Easter vacation to find that the portrait of Toby, Alexander, and Linnet is missing - loaned out by his grandmother to a museum, possibly to be sold at the end of the exhibition because she needs money to mend the roof. Tolly is horrified, and then, with the help of Susan and Jacob (Susan being an ancestor of his from 1800), he learns about Green Knowe during their lifetimes, and, yes, finds the treasure which was lost while they were living.

Sorry it wasn’t part of my childhood reading
Whereas the first book felt like fond memories, this one has pain; and (personally I think book 3 has a touch of horror. 19th century English adults could be so cruel. At least the father shines as a ray of hope (quite rare in modern books). A touching treatment of blindness, physical and metaphorical; naive treatment of racism by today's standards. But very happy ending.
