Publisher's summary

In this book, the second in the Snarky in the Suburbs series, Wynn Butler is ready to kill her mother...or at the very least demand she gets a psych evaluation and an MRI. On Wynn’s yearly pilgrimage to Trask, Texas, to visit her parents, what she hoped would be a relaxing visit (not counting the family reunion which has all the charm of a zombie apocalypse) has turned into a Texas-sized, hot mess!

Her 69-year-old mother Gwynn Crockett Martin has become an entrepreneur and opened up a cupcake bakery that seems to be doing double duty as a halfway house for economically battered Junior League dropouts. If that’s not enough to make Wynn want to turn tail and run home, her mom is hell-bent on convincing her to “heed the call of Jesus” and come to the aid of a woman that made Wynn miserable in high school - Sara Beth Bishop. And by aid, Wynn’s mother means concoct a plan to exact epic revenge on Sara Beth’s lying, cheating, spray-tanning, money-stealing ex-husband and his new wife, snob of the millennium, Yale Greenly.

Things go from bad to worse when Wynn finds herself embroiled in a scheme that involves breaking and entering, theft, assault, livestock wrangling, killer mold, impersonating a maid, hair spray bomb fabrication, and crashing the town’s poshest society event of the year - the Mohair Palace Pageant.

If Wynn can survive this visit home without doing time in the ER, jail, or both, it will be a miracle! Hang on to your hat and saddle up for a retribution rodeo - or as Wynn’s mom calls it - “justice served up Lone Star style”.

Delightful Read

“Trouble in Texas” is exactly the hilarious distraction I was looking for in a book. The author takes the reader through a series of encounters with friends and family from a Southern small town and proceeds to skewer with hilarious precision each character based on various ill- fated past encounters. Imagine going back to your home town to discover your eccentric and outspoken Mom had befriended abs employed your high school “frenemies”. The plot moves quickly and you can’t stop wanting more of the narrator’s witty and sarcastic impressions during her time back home in small town Texas.

Very funny

Just the ticket- a fun story, and great escape from a stressful day. I have read three of Sherry Claypool Kuehl’s books. They were all worth a read and made me laugh.

The perfect end-of-summer-read.

Are you looking for the perfect revenge fantasy after a summer of playing sherpa to your children and their numerous traveling sports or other organized group activity and that ever present Gawd-awful over-achieving sports/dance/gymnastics/cheer parent? Snarky’s got your back in the form of Wynn. She speaks truth to every eye rolling, deep sighing, face palming parent. Put in your ear buds, head out for a walk and get ready to laugh. Thx, Snarky. 😎

Cute story

This is the second book I’ve read by this author and while I thought it was cute, I still love the original Snarky in the Suburbs best. This story was harder for me to get into and identify with, likely because I didn’t grow up in Texas! The narration was still top notch though, and I wouldn’t hesitate to read another by this author.

Laugh Out Loud

There were parts of this book that had me laughing out loud and when you are listening via head phones, people look at you funny! This book was better than the first and well worth the credit. The narrator was awesome and did such a good job with the different voices you always knew who was talking. The story moved along at a pleasant pace and was a fun listen.
