About this listen

Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson (1902-1994), the Lubavitcher Rebbe, took an insular Chasidic group that was almost decimated by the Holocaust and transformed it into one of the most influential and controversial forces in world Jewry. This superbly crafted biography draws on recently uncovered documents and archives of personal correspondence, painting an exceptionally human and charming portrait of a man who was well known but little understood. With a sharp attention to detail and an effortless style, Chaim Miller takes us on a soaring journey through the life, mind and struggles of one of the most interesting religious personalities of the Twentieth Century.

The story of the Rebbe's life and philosophy is an enrichment to the world for people of all faiths, and to those who are still searching. This book provides what the word "Chabad" indicates: "Wisdom" "Knowledge" and Understanding.

Captivating story and a living inspiration.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I recommend to all the jews, obviously, and to all the seekers of practical spirituality. It is not a manual, but it is a way to get closer to an Illuminated person.

What about Shlomo Zacks’s performance did you like?

Zacks is the Voice of Chabad here on Audible.com. A smooth, pleasant and calm voice with british accent. Excellent

This autobiography will change your life regardless of affiliation or religion. Every one of the 999 minutes is soulful and inspiring without being forceful or restricting. I cried at the story of Schneerson’s life.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

For some reason the pauses between sentences have been digitally compressed. This makes for very difficult listening.

What didn’t you like about Shlomo Zacks’s performance?

He can actually pronounce yiddish words! Something one would have thought a necessary pre-requisite for a book on judiasm. However, as experience has show this is not always the case. So well done Shlomo.

Digitally modified recording is disappointing
