About this listen

Deputy US Marshal Miro Jones finally has everything he ever wanted. He's head-over-heels in love and married to the man of his dreams, his partner Ian Doyle, he's doing well at work, and all his friends are in good places as well. Things are all tied up nicely...until they're not.

Change has never been easy for Miro, and when situations at work force the team he's come to depend on to break apart, and worst of all, his and Ian's individual strengths put them on two separate paths, he's pretty certain everything just went up in smoke.

But before he can even worry about the future, his past comes for a visit, shaking his world up even more. It's hard to tell what road he should truly be on, but as he learns some paths are forged and others are discovered, it might be that where he's going is the right course after all. If he can navigate all the twists and turns, he and Ian might just get their happily ever after.

An action packed thriller/romance.

Twisted and Tied is the fourth book in the Marshal Series by Mary Calmes. Having waited until it was released in audiobook format before obtaining the whole series I had the pleasure of listening to the entire series over the course of a week. Every time I thought these novels couldn’t get any better Mary Calmes’ words, combined with superb narration by Tristan James, proved me wrong.

In Twisted and Tied we find Deputy US Marshal’s Miro Jones and his partner, Ian Doyle, newly married and navigating the boundaries between work and home. Ian’s protective instincts are very strong when it comes to Miro, and learning to trust his husband to take care of himself on and off the job is hard. There are so many dangers lurking in the shadows and it’s not just serial killers and terrorists Ian is worried about. Ian needs Miro to protect his soft heart when dealing with victims of crime as well, and Miro’s habit of gathering strays in the course of his duties is causing him concern. Ian has happily absorbed Cabot, Drake, Josue and possibly Josue’s boyfriend, into their family but he fears for Miro’s heart when it looks like he’ll be working more extensively with children under the Marshal’s care. Compromise and communication will be needed for them to protect their happiness moving forward.

Supervisory Deputy Darren Mills took over Sam Kage’s job when he was promoted. Picked by a committee with no input from Kage or his boss Tom Kenward, Mills has proven to be a poor fit and his decisions have put both the Marshal’s and their witnesses in mortal danger. After the death of a young witness under their care, and the exposure of Mills’ underling Director of Custodial WITSEC Mrs Cullen, as not simply incompetent but wilfully negligent, Kage moves Mills, arrests Cullen and rearranges the entire department. It’s a great deal for them all to take in but the genius of Kage’s decisions soon becomes apparent. Ian and Miro take on significant new roles, no longer directly partnered at work, and they soon see the benefits for all concerned. Their made family isn’t going anywhere, despite the new division of jobs, and the love they share will give them the strength they both need to perform at their best.

Naturally life has a way of throwing obstacles in the path of all these men, and working together to protect not only witnesses, but each other, will quickly prove vital. There’s a new killer in town, and an old adversary returns to Chicago, calling on all the skill and intelligence the Marshals can muster. Throw in some children in danger within the WITSEC program, and one of Miro’s ‘girls’ attacked from the least likely source, and Miro and Ian, as well as their friends, are in for a very busy, stressful, and dangerous time. Twisted and Tied is non stop action from start to finish and will keep you riveted from the opening chase to the highly satisfying conclusion.

There is so much to love about this audiobook. Mary Calmes knows how to write action packed thrillers and her inclusion of beloved characters such as Sam Kage from her Matter of Time series, and a tiny cameo featuring Efrem and Darius from The Vault series, add even more layers to an already fabulous cast. I love all the men and women in The Marshals series and I know I’ll be revisiting them again and again in future. They will retain pride of place in my audiobook library, along with the other two series mentioned here.
Tristan James is the perfect narrator for a series with so many strong characters needing their own unique voices. His Alpha males are sizzling hot and growly, and other supporting characters perfectly voiced for their personality.
Highly recommended audiobook and series.

Perfect Mary Calmes and Tristan James!

I have loved this series from the beginning and this 4th book is perfect. Tristan James' voice IS Miro Jones! I love the way that Mary Calmes' books mention the day to day things so you feel like you really know your character. I love the fact the books are long, not just 2 or 3 hours. Some books fit the shorter length (that works for some books) but not this series.
SPOILER ALRET:
I really want to know: 1.) How the 16 year old died? 2.) What happened to the 2 new Marshals that just transferred in to Chicago? 3.) Does Ned and his mother get what they deserve? 4.) What happens to Miro and Ian in the future (PLEASE-no getting old and passing!) If I don't find out that is ok, they will forever stay at this age in my mind. 5.) Do they like their jobs now? 6.) What is in the safe? 7.) I have loved Miro and Ian also Jory and Sam, can I have a new series?
Thank you Ms. Calmes and Ms. James for the hours of enjoyment I have gotten from this series.

Ian and Miro ♥️

This series is beyond enjoyable, action packed, well written and hot. By the time I got to this fourth book I was so worried, how was this story going to tie up all it’s ends? How can there possibly be a HEA????

The answer is there isn’t.
You will end this book with questions and no glimpse of the future. The story ends with contentment, and love. A perfect moment for our boys. It was simultaneously perfect and infuriating!

So should you buy this fourth installment??

Hell yes!!

LOVE

I love the first 4 books. Ian and Miro so much.. I laughed and Cried during this series and never wanted it to end. I am not big on Codependent relationships but this one was worth it. Also loved seeing a little of Kage again too bad non of his relationship but good to know they are still going strong... All the side characters are great and the trouble they get into is great.

Obviously setting up future book

I like the narration. He’s done prior Marshals books, so it is nice that he has been able to voice the whole series. He does “Chicago “ well, and is great with the 1st person, as others seriously drone when books are 1st person.

Absolutely Fabulous - Tristan James at his best!!!

Oh wow, I think this is the best one yet. It's an absolutely fabulous series, but I'm blown away by Twisted and Tied.

I love when Miro and Ian are together, and they're together a ton in this one

three words
IN THE PANTRY

Man oh man - that was one of the most intense love scenes I've read in ages.

Can't write about it without giving too much away, but I can not wait for what Mary Calmes is going to do with the plot next... it's going to be incredible.

Also, it's been way too long since I've enjoyed Tristan James' gorgeous voice. He was my first favorite and will always have a special place in my hear - but he rocks this one. If I could give 6 stars I certainly would. (Nobody says to-ward like he does and it gets me every time - hey, to each their own, right?)

One of my Favorite Series

This 4th book in the Marshals is an absolute brilliant and delightful ending to this series or at least to Miro and Ian's story, I am a huge fan of Mary Calmes starting with her Matter of Time series so when Marshals came out I was excited and Tristan James does an incredible job giving these characters a voice. I will be re-listening to all 4 of these books again and again I highly recommend them.

Tristan James is always a joy to listen to

Miro and Ian finally relax into the solidness of their relationship, and Miro gets his true calling -- more than that I will not say as you need to listen to the story. Tristan James brings the characters to life in his own inimitable fashion. Mary Calmes spins a wonderful tale and this one has all the feels, especially the tears. Don't miss it, it is SO worth a credit.
