About this listen

George R. R. Martin's alternate-history story revolves around one of six "geeks" sent back to a critical point in history. Their mission is to prevent the Swedish fortress of Sveaborg from surrendering to the Russians in order to win the war - or "maybe [to] just save ourselves from the plagues and bombs and the poisoned winds".©1985 George R. Grows on you

Narrator has a weird style but he and the story grows on you as we learn more about the time-travelling 'Geek' programme. A little dark and gritty and not for everyone but a great story from a pedigree author.

Shorter than I would have liked but still good

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend this book to a friend if they enjoyed George R. R. Martin's writing style and story telling. It was not a masterpiece by any means but the characters had a good amount of depth for them considering it is a short book.

What three words best describe Pat Bottino’s performance?

Way too slow.

Love it

This is really great short story by Martin. There is enough detail to make the story come to life, and leaving the reader wanting more.

It’s bad

The fact this is written by GRRM, is the only reason this story has over 3 stars. The story starts off with overly dramatic prose, but eventually smooths out. However, the story is super short and the ending is rushed, making the few decent parts in the middle not worth the time or money.

Finally, the narrator is absolutely terrible. He is monotone and slow. I will never purchase anything with him again.
