About this listen

When Kora Williams wakes up inside the dark alien warship called Silence, fate has spun completely out of her control.

She doesn't understand why she was abducted by a vicious, depraved Kordolian, and she can't believe she was rescued by an even more dangerous one. A big armor-clad brute of a warrior, who lifted her into his arms far too easily, as if she weighed next to nothing.

She should be dead, or at the very least, doomed to a terrible life as a slave.

But she's been saved, and now she's on a ship full of dangerous silver-skinned aliens and their surprisingly human mates. She wants nothing to do with this strange new reality. She doesn't want to dwell on her horrific ordeal. All she wants to do is return to a normal life on Earth; to her cozy little house, her job, her son . . .

But these Kordolians have other ideas. To her dismay, it turns out there's a reason she was taken.

And the big, lethal warrior who rescued her? He's been assigned to protect her.

Contains mature themes.

I love this series!

I love this series! But, honestly almost at the end of the series this one was my least favorite. It was sad and the heroine while understandably traumatized was not a good mother or very nice. Basically not my favorite character.

meh

I generally love the series but just do not like this narrator. I am wondering if it isn't AI generated because it's robotic and there is nearly no character differentiation. it took me a few days to decide to tough it out just bc I want to finish the series. although the further the series extends, the less original the books become. the overall plot wasn't moved much at all and there are so many repeated phrases that I am glad there is just 1 book left after this one.

Good

As usual the story is pretty good. I prefer the original narrator’s voice or the other man.

Another awesome Dark Star Mercenaries story

Undying Stars is another awesome Dark Star Mercenaries story. It is Jeral’s turn with the mating fever. He is the first division sniper and plays a big role in the overall story of the series told in this book.

I was disappointed with the reader. I definitely prefer the two previous male readers.

Love Strengths

I enjoyed Ms. Carven's series. It's lush with so much emotional and mental strengths in the storyline. Can't wait for the next book.

horrible Narrator

I could not even finish this book. After listening to all of Dark planet, and this series to not even to be able finish this last bit of the story is infuriating. Why did you change the narrators. No emotion conveyed, character differentiation, or differentiation from characters speaking, and background storyline. This sounded like I was being read boring documentary. The worst Narration I have ever heard. Ruined my enjoyment if the series.

Different narrator please!

The narrator annoyingly use the same tone of voice no matter who is talking. There is no difference on the voices of the different characters which make it confusing to listen when several characters are conversing.

Kordolians 🥰

Love ❤️ the badass Kordolians; the way they can take a lot of punishing blows and make a come back; being indestructible. Storyline was pretty good, kids can be a pain no matter what situation. Story didn’t really get into dealing with son. Maybe in a future book? The narrator did a good job with characters.

Not worth the wait

Look, I love this series and DPW. I’ve read/listened to every book (the best of those multiple times). No other alien romance series on the market - including the beloved IPB - can touch these ones. But this book was a letdown.

Setup: Kora is a trauma nurse and a single mother (in that order). She’s a workaholic who takes risks with her own life and often fails to speak to her 15yo child for days at a time! One night she’s walking home from work through a sketchy part of town and she gets abducted by one of those evil refugee Kordolian nobles from the empire (you know, the ones who shouldn’t be on earth). She’s beaten and raped. None of this is spoilery because it’s all off page, the story starts after she’s rescued by Jeral, a warrior of Tarak al Akkadian’s 1st division. At that point NOTHING else happens.

I thought this book would be a take off of T2 (you know, John and Sarah Connor) with endless chases, first meeting mayhem, dark high jinks, and the trio saving humanity as a pseudo-family. But... uh... by 5 hours in Jeral HADN’T EVEN ACTIVATED HIS EXO-ARMOUR. Apparently Jeral is a sniper with the best shot in the universe, but by hour 6 HE HADN’T EVEN DRAWN HIS GUN. Sigh. Most of the book is one big internal blah blah blah. And that monologue is largely a series recap, about the Darkstar mission, Kordolian might, and their disdain for human frailty. WE KNOW. Move along. Jeral and Kora definitely did not bask in their love or lust (there was only ONE sex scene). They didn’t speak much about Jeral’s unique biology (even though Kora’s a medical professional). They didn’t talk about how he eventually managed to help save earth (because yes, earth does need saving in the final 2hrs). She never saw him in battle, or had any idea of his capabilities. Like what??

There was no mention of solving that huge PR war that the good Kordolians and bad Kordolians were having on earth (as we know from previous books in this series). There was only passing mention of Aunt Kenna’s ranch stronghold. No mention of future plans for the hero and heroine. There was no word on what the mfc will do with her life, now that she and her mate live in a medical utopia filled with non-humans and all of her skills are moot. Also, I really missed the high quality narration of JF Harding.
