This author sure knows how to launch a short story. It's immediately tense and hooks you in the first few seconds. The story and narration are very good. The youth were awkward to listen to. Either the author has forgotten how real teenagers talk or I have. Now for the bad news. I don't know how Unforgiven looks on the page, but in audio form the setting changes were too jarring and confusing. I found myself rewinding a lot which pulled me out of the story. This would have made a better movie. It is visual and the changes are good, just too difficult as audio. Or maybe a second narrator could have been used. The end result was that I was either rewinding or I was focusing more on whether or not we were still in the same scene. Which meant I wasn't really experiencing or enjoying the story. If this could be fixed, it would be a 5 star short story.
This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.
Could have been great
