I have followed the author's literary development & subject matter for decades. In this, the first of her books to be recorded, I have identified a thread that runs from intellect to emotion & thereby may reach many more readers than previously reached. The author makes a compelling comparison of military life vs the U.S. penal system. Ms. Standing's well-paced & clearly recorded delivery do service to what I believe is her best book to date. I am particularly impressed with Chapters 3, 5 & 9 in which she reveals aspects of her personal life. This is a thoughtful, complex read & not a book to skim through.
