Publisher's summary

The journey from being a "no-name" artist to finding your voice in the world of comics has always been a mystery - especially in the Internet age. While the publishing industry struggles to adapt to the rapidly changing digital world, independent artists now have the ability to build a successful and lucrative brand completely on their own with a little hard work and some Internet savvy.

Now there's nothing stopping you from getting your book in front of thousands or even millions of people. Suddenly you can't blame anyone for not giving you a chance. You can only blame yourself for not trying. So roll up your sleeves, sharpen your pencils and fire up your Internet because we are about to make and sell comics!

Jason Brubaker's graphic novel reMIND raised over $175,000 in pre-order sales on Kickstarter, won the Xeric Award, and made ALA's Great Graphic Novels for Teens List. This book is a collection of his thoughts, strategies, and practical lessons developed during his experience writing, drawing, and self-publishing reMIND.

For some reason I enjoyed

Although the voice effects Jason uses at first seemed a bit corny I think it helped me eventually finish listening to this book in 24 hours time. I've been doing a lot of research so most of the information I already knew but he threw in a few things that gave me a new prospective. The chapters on designers and printing was useful and new to me. Jason comes off as a nice guy so listening to him was easy.

Vivacious and Inspiring!

Would you consider the audio edition of Unnatural Talent to be better than the print version?

I think both would be awesome to have, some of the charts and art Jason referenced in the book would've been nice to see.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The author of course! Jason Brubaker!

What does Jason Brubaker bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

His own voice and reactions. Had I read it in my own head I wouldn't have imagined the high pitched voices he dramatized, nor the robotic sound bits during the Kickstarter confusion voice.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

There is no secret ingredient.

Any additional comments?

Jason you really set a fire under my seat! Super excited to get started and illustrate my stories!

most helpful

This was by far the most helpful resource for learning to create and self publish a graphic novel that I've come across. Im much more informed and inspired having finished reading than I was when I started, and that's certainly saying something. I found it very relatable, practical, and above all insightful and informative. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR CREATING THIS!

The best book to learn how to self publish comics!

Jason Brubaker completely lays out the steps to create and self publish your own comic books in this well structured book. If you are an aspiring comic book artist looking to self publish your own comic books and graphic novels then this is the book for you! I've already self published my first comic book this past year but still couldnt help but learn so much from Jason and can't wait to apply these new ideas and methods to my own work!

Thank you Jason Brubaker.

I've just finished "unnatural Talent" and it is filled with all the information I've been searching for to become a "successful"artist. And when I say "successful", I don't mean the art aspect of artist, I mean the business side of being an artist. Generating income streams! For so long, I've been stuck doing jobs I hate, so I can pay the mortgage and feed my family.
After this review, I'm going to Amazon to order the print version of this book to use as reference on a weekly basis. If you're an artist trying to figure out how to make money doing the thing you love. The thing you FEEL you were meant to be doing, this should be the first book you read.
Thanks again Mr.Brubaker!

Must read if you are starting a comic!

Something didn't set right with me while starting this book. Seemed amateurish. I continued to listen because of my need for information and the lack of it on this topic in audio book form. I am sooo glad I did. The best book on self publishing I have read or heard. I immediately started googling Jason and his books. I am buying the printed book too so I can reference his material easier. Oh, and the amateur thing....duh, its written for amateurs. Can't recommend enough. I will listen to it a few times probably. Thanks Jason.
