Publisher's summary

They were never an obvious group of friends. Julian came from the most staid of county families. Jake's passage from unassuming suburbia to the dreaming spires of Oxford happened only by chance, and at great cost. And Adrienne, daughter of one of New York's wealthiest and most glamorous families, grew up more used to appearances in Vogue than to Oxford's cold and dusty lecture halls. When the three of them arrive at university, it is Julian's sister, Maggie, who brings them together. It is her idea to teach Jake's childhood tormentor a lesson. But what begins as a game has life-changing consequences for them all.

Editorial reviews

The three subjects of Richard Mason’s Us shared no common history before arriving at Oxford. Jake is a suburban boy, Julian comes from a respectable county family, and Adrienne is a New York socialite. With the influence of Julian’s sister, Maggie, however the three unite for a game that has an unforgettable effect on all their lives. Utilizing the talents of veteran performers, Nancy Black, Nicholas Bell, and Humphrey Bower to portray the fated characters, this audiobook quickly takes on a deeper and more sinister trajectory.

Critic reviews

"The current king of the hot young writers is Richard Mason." (The Times [London])
"Devastatingly tragic, funny, and utterly gripping." (Independent on Sunday [London])

Don't waste your time

I'm afraid this is the worst audiobook that I've had from Audible. Absolute, total and utter drivel! The plot leaps about, the characters are not only unbelievable, but also lacking in development; I honestly couldn't care less what happened to them. Some of the plot lines just go nowhere - the father of one of the main characters is caught having an affair and then nothing is said about it again. The story meanders pointlessly and the ending is just utterly uninspiring and irrelevant. Another of the main characters makes his living by producing modern art that he himself openly admits is rubbish (or, more accurately a word that begins with c and ends with rap). I get the distinct impression that the author of this book wanted to emulate his character, but in his case, in print, not modern art. I kept waiting and hoping for something interesting to happen; it didn't. PLEASE don't waste your money/credit on this - you will only be completely wasting you time and money.
