About this listen
Life is simple for Vespera.
Despite her family being forced into seclusion for her safety, she is thankful for the peace. If only her lifelong, debilitating headaches weren't getting worse. The last thing she wants for her twentieth birthday is to be even more of a burden on her family.
When her headaches finally do begin to subside, her eerie pale eyes, blood red hair, and too pale skin are no longer the only things that make Vespera strange. Her reflexes are sharper, her vision and hearing are heightened, and her strength increases tenfold. Vespera doesn't know anything about magic. Besides, magic is illegal.
Vespera is used to hiding, though, and with the two kingdoms of Devtera at peace and her headaches are gone, Vespera finally begins to look forward to the future.
Hope is always dangerous.
When the Prince of Rokellia tries to arrest her, a matching, glowing brand appears on each of their arms, further implicating her guilt. Before the prince can put her in chains, the city is attacked and they are separated. The flames destroy everything of the life Vespera once knew.
Full of grief and rage, Vespera vows to avenge her family by whatever means necessary.
First, the fanatical militia, the Bloodied Men.
And then the entrancing Prince Aleron.

Story
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Story
Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.

Story
In the not-too-distant future, a 21-member crew launches from Earth. Their mission: to establish a temporary colony on Mars. Little do they know that colony will become permanent–and the last stand of the human race. Because, without warning, every single person left on Earth simply...vanishes. Now, a thousand years later, the resources needed to sustain life are running out, and the very existence of the Mars colony is threatened. Humankind has only one option–to return to its home planet.

All of it stood out holy moly!!!!!
I’m gonna be honest I read a lot of books and deal with a lot of emotions but normally I can control them better but this book just literally had me on the edge of my damn seat. Don’t know how many times my gasping or startled sounds made my mom come in asking if I was OKkind of wish I’d record all of my reactions before starting it so you could see just how much this affected me towards the end so many terms and plot twist some I guess like Silas and some I didn’t like the king korrelai that surprised the hell out of me, but totally did not see that one come out of left field nor the little secrets about friendly now to answer a common question asked since the book been released for now I’m not choosing just yet, but I love Prince Lee and my heart still like Silas even though I know he’s a dick The spirit is an amazing written, beautiful crafted down to the character description to the flow with a genuine storyline and absolute love and all over this book. E.B. You are a damn good writer, and I can’t wait for you to carry me into the next book!!!!! (I’m still working on getting but I will let you know)

The characters
I love the characters in this book, they feel quite 3 dimensional with their own stories waiting to be told. So much intrigue and mystery and the magic system is very unique. And don’t get me started on the tension between the main characters. So good I felt like I was a fly on the wall holding my breath for chapter 15. The world building is also fantastic, I’d say I could draw a map of it and visualize a view that made the FMC lose her breath.

Great fantasy escape!
This was a fun listen that was hard to put down. I easily got sucked into the world the author built and the narrator did a great job of bringing the characters to life. If you are a fan of Shadow and Bone or Court of Thorns and Roses I highly recommend giving this one a go.

Excellent narration!
I initially started this book on KU and got busy but was determined to keep going, so I redownloaded Audible to free up my hands while reading. Wow, Lexy’s narration really took this story to the next level and added so much to the characterization of Vespera and the other characters! By the end I was reading along on my Kindle while listening to the audiobook because I enjoyed the narration so much. Often times I have found it distracting or cheesy, but this one was truly excellent!

Vespera
This book enraptured me from the very first chapter as the author described in riveting detail the full emotional state of her character at all times. I felt what the main character felt. I could see what the main character could see and taste what they could taste. I felt like I was in every moment that the character was experiencing and that made the story come to life for me. While this book was more YA geared. The slow burn was definitely sizzling and those scenes definitely packed and emotional punch.... also I have to give a full honorable mention to the fight scenes. They were impeccable! The detail in the way that the author described the scent of blood and the chaos that ensued around her in those moments was enthralling I could hardly put the book down when there was a fight scene! All in all this was a beautiful story well written well thought out and well-designed. I was 100% entertained from start to finish
P.S.
I genuinely enjoyed how the voice actress was able to incorporate so many different accents and tones in the book it really felt like each character came to life individually.
