This series has me hooked!

5 Crazy Ass Must Listen Stars!!!!!

This series has me hooked! The suspense aspect of this book was unexpected and kept me swiping pages.
The Dover/McLaughlin duo is one of my faves. I love when authors collaborate and it works. This series is proof that it works for these two.

😍😍🤩🤩🤩

Excellent once again!! Much like the Dark Room...although that was my favorite...the Viewing Room was just as great!! Hunter and Kennedy start off with a dance of seduction that seems to quickly escalate and blossom. The unfortunate events that happen with one of Kennedy’s clients bring them closer still. This love story is one for the books!!! Action, love, thriller...a must read

Not As Good As The Dark Room...

Well, I was a little disappointed in the Viewing Room. It just wasn't as solid as a follow up to the Dark Room as I thought it would be. I anticipated the scenes regarding the Viewing Room would be steamier, and more descriptive than they were. The lack of details regarding the "room" just made this another story about a strip club. I was also slightly disappointment with insta-love between the H/h. However, I did love the plot and the reverse character roles, a slightly older female character with an established law firm, and a younger male (just a couple of years difference) who is working as a stripper to pay his way through law school. That was a refreshing change of pace, most other romances it's the other way.

While the relationship between the H/h was instant, I liked they both knew what they wanted, and were determine to give their relationship a shot. None of the usual push/pull, no mind games or baggage, they worked well as a team and for a common goal. The sex scenes were descriptive and hot.

Some spoilers:
The story is well written, captivating, and moves at a steady pace. Both the plot and subplot was good, giving the story suspense and a dangerous edge that actually sneaks up on you. One of Kennedy's friends wants to get a divorce so she hires Kennedy's law firm. They suspect the client's husband has been cheating on her and goes to the Viewing Room to commit the act. Kennedy is determined to try to catch him in the act before filling the divorce papers. She and Hunter keep their eyes open while they are at the club and in the Viewing Room, just when they are about to give up, they finally see him at the club. When she files the divorce, he becomes violent, lashes out and devises a plan to get even with everyone. He was more dangerous than they gave him credit.

As with the first story, the narration was great! Emily and James both did an amazing job with the characters, emotions and their performance was lively. I would listen to other audios narrated by either of them.

While I was a little disappointed with the lack of details regarding the Viewing Room, I really liked the plot, and reverse character roles and did enjoy the story. I will definitely be on the lookout for other stories in the series. This is still a great KU/whispersync deal!

Review: Viewing Room, by McLaughlin and Dover

A few months back, I read McLaughlin and Dover’s Dark Room. It’s the first book in their Society X series and was an enjoyable read. Viewing Room is the second in the standalone series and another great book.

While I did enjoy both books, there were different things to enjoy about them. Viewing Room was less focused on the club Society X, and instead had more of a private investigation feel, due to the main character’s professions. This helped add diversity to the series and I welcomed it more than if I were reading another similar book to Dark Room.

I also really enjoyed Hunter and Kennedy. They both have a deep past and strong personalities. This made reading from their points of view really work for me. Even side characters, while not seeing as much of some as I would have liked, added to the story.

I feel that overall the story was great and it was all entertaining. Though, near the end, the series of events were a little extreme compared to how the rest of the book was going. It was all well-written, and not totally out of left field, but at the same time almost too sensational for the tone set earlier on. On the other hand, this also helped set this book apart from the first in the series, while having Society X as the common thread.

It’ll be interesting to see where these two authors go from here with the series. The possibilities are almost endless when a place like Society X and its diverse clientele are involved.

Demeaning and Pedantic

I really, really wanted to like this book. I really did. I would listen for a little while, and then turn it off and try again a few days later. The female character is so demeaning, and not in any kind of "sexy" way. She pretty much insists that the stripper can't be anything else because he's a stripper and just says it over and over and over. The narration is also lacking.

Middle of the road

Any additional comments?

I loved Dark Room and I was so thrilled to continue on with Viewing Room, I knew there was a story to tell there.

Kennedy is a divorcee that is looking to move on with her life. Her divorce was amicable and she just wants her ex and her to find happiness. Her friends just want her to stop working late and start having a good time. Which is how they ended up at Society X. Never did Kennedy imagine meeting the man of her dreams, Hunter. Hunter is working at the sex club to pay for his education and having a good time while doing it. That is, until he meets Kennedy and then he is forced to reevaluate his priorities. This becomes even more apparent when a coincidence lands them together in much more professional ways.

I am not sure if it was Emily Devereaux's performance or if this book just felt forced, but I had a hard time connecting to the story. The reason why I feel it might have been the performance is because I tended to get more into the story when James Kavanaugh was narrating. This is an instalove kind of story so when Emily was narrating, or maybe it was just Kennedy's personality, I didn't feel that same intense connection that was felt with Hunter and James performing. It pulled me out of this world and didn't keep me intensely involved the way I experienced with Dark Room.

That being said, the story was great and I loved the connection that kept Hunter and Kennedy in each other's lives in more ways than one. I also loved the subplot of the scorned ex of a client. This brought in drama and a whole new level of excitement.

Credit worthy? To me, it was meh. I liked it. Didn't love it.
