Publisher's summary

Rein Dear is a prestigious title, accompanied by admiration, devotion, and celebrity status, all of which one saucy Vixen thrives on. Alas, Vixen's only concerned with having fun, unlike his stuffy and sensible best friend, Rudy Rein Dear, who Vixen has always been jealous of. Aside from being chosen by Mayor Kringle to be captain of the Rein Dear Squadron, Rudy's managed to snag himself a prince, even if that prince is the dangerous and imposing Jack Frost.

All's not lost for Vixen though. He discovers Jack's cousin, Vale, has a soft spot for him. Vale Frost might not be a dashing prince, but he's the next best thing: a decorated lieutenant for the Toy Soldier Army, and a member of the Frost monarchy.

Determined to get what Vixen feels he deserves, he sets off on a mission to ensnare the kind-hearted lieutenant. But Vixen's selfish ways are sure to lead to disaster, and it'll take more than a little courage to set things right.

Cute series

Oh Vixen, you naughty Rein Dear! This is a cute sweet series. Vale, who is Jacks cousin, is smittened with Vixen, even though Vixen is kind of smutty. Vale is so romantic and charming. Vixen just wanted to be loved, especially after he lost the love of his adoptive parents after they had a child of their own. Vixen does do something unthinkable and puts everyone at risk. But when they put their hearts on the line, they fix it and love prevails.

Fun, funny, sweet, wonderful!

Vixen is a … well, Vixen is a slut. He lost the love of his adoptive parents when they had a baby of their own (way to break my heart Charlie!) and he substitutes the arms of any willing male for that missing affection.

Vale mostly follows the footsteps of his father and does nothing to stir trouble. He admires Vixen from afar, but never dares to push himself in among the throngs of admirers for fear of a trampled heart.

Vixen decides to set his cap for Vale when he considers that Vale is the closest thing to a Prince Charming he’ll get.

Jealousy causes Vixen to do something unthinkable and it ends up putting the entire kingdom at risk. In order to right the world, both Vixen and Vale must put their lives on the line and risk themselves and their hearts.

**

It was hard to like Vixen at first, he’s quite vain and shallow. But… there are hidden depths to him that we discover and pretty soon, we are rooting for him and Vale to make a love connection.

Vale is the perfect hero. Steadfast, true, honorable, but capable of making mistakes, just like the rest of us.

I really enjoyed the excitement and couldn’t read fast enough to see if Vixen could save the day.

The story moves quickly but there is just enough there to make all the characters feel really well developed and the plot gripping.

I hope we see more from this Christmas world and I highly recommend this book in the series.

Audio:

Robert Nieman is a favorite narrator of mine. He doesn’t do a lot in terms of accents, but he makes it clear who is speaking. He does a great job with pacing and emotions and excels with dialog. I really loved this story and the narration is a great way to experience it!

Any additional comments?

Vixen revels in the recognition and admiration he receives as one of the Rein Dear. But what Vixen really longs for is a Prince, and everything that comes with being on the arm of one. Vale Frost is certainly fits the bill, and he adores Vixen to boot. The more time the two spend together, Vixen starts to realize that he wants something far more precious from Vale, he wants his love. When Vixen unknowingly tells a secret Vale entrusted him with to the wrong person, Vale is crestfallen and sends Vixen away. By now though, Vixen has fallen in love with his tall, dark and handsome Toy Soldier and he won’t walk away that easily, even if it kills him.

I so enjoyed watching Vixen go from a slightly spoiled brat, anxious to sink his claws into Vale for the recognition and fame it will bring him… to a strong and confident young man, that was willing to sacrifice himself if it meant Vale would just look at him with love in his eyes one more time. So much personal growth for him in so few pages. Vale is literally Prince Charming with his magical wind song that lures Vixen to him. Both men became stronger and more confident just being with each other.

Robert Nieman is sticking with the narrating and I hope that holds as more books come out. What was most notable for me in this book was how both men continually evolved and grew in the story, and how Nieman captured that in the way he voiced them. The tones and inflections early on were shy and even a bit scared. Then as the story progressed and especially at the end, the tones and inflections grew stronger and more assured.

My favorite of the series so far, though I’ve really enjoyed them all. A winter wonderland fantasy theme with some strife and a whole lot of romance to keep these elves, soldiers and princes nice and toasty warm.

Oh, Vixen you can be such a naughty boy.

Vixen is known to be a playboy kind of guy but he thinks he might have found his heart with Lieutenant Vale. When accompanying Vale to a party, Vixen stumbles upon something that no one is supposed to know about and that eventually gets him into trouble with Vale and the Frost family.

This was a really cute story and easy to listen to while I was doing housework. I’m pretty sure this is the first audiobook I’ve listened to narrated by Robert Nieman. I thought he did a pretty good job overall. This audiobook is over 6 years old and some of the obvious breath taking that I heard probably wouldn’t be found in a good audiobook production these days. Still, I very much enjoyed listening to this story.

Vixen’s Valor really is a great holiday themed story and I love the inventive things the author does with all of the traditional (well not so traditional now) North Pole characters.

romance in the North Pole

I very much enjoyed Vixen’s Valor. All Vixen has ever wanted was to be loved and wanted. All Vale wants is to show Vixen he is so much more than the vapid flirt all of North Pole City seems to think he is. I loved how their relationship developed and how much Vixen grew through the story. Very enjoyable!!
Narration by Robert Nieman was very enjoyable! He has great voice and energy!
