 As the first crusaders leave for the Holy Land, the reluctent bureaucrat Count Edouard attempts to maintain order as religious and temporal factions struggle for control of the Empire and its treasury. Things become more complicated whn a young Monk, Henri Gilbert begins to hear voices telling him he is the long deceased Saint Martin.
