About this listen

Book number one in Samantha Chase's popular Montgomery series.

There's no time like the present...unless you're still running from your past. Executive assistant Emma Taylor is desperate for a little time away - away from her job, from her life, and from thoughts of her boss' son, who doesn't seem to know she even exists. Tired of waiting for the time to be right, she takes advantage of her boss' generous offer for a little weekend getaway to thank her for helping out with a difficult business deal.

Former NFL superstar Lucas Montgomery is still suffering from a career-ending injury. His self-imposed exile from life is exactly what he wants - a sanctuary where there's no chance for disappointment or distractions, and that's exactly the way he likes it. While his family has been patiently waiting for Lucas to come around and embrace life once again, they don't realize that it wasn't just his career that was lost but his sense of identity. Lucas thinks everything is fine until sweet, sexy, and completely off-limits Emma Taylor comes crashing into his carefully constructed world one snowy weekend and turns his entire life upside down.

It’s the narrator!!

The narrator ruined it for me. The story seemed interesting but the narration made it intolerable

Good story, horrible narration

I loved the story. - sweet with just the right amount of conflict. However, the narrator almost killed it for me. There wasn’t much change in his tone. He was so rushed and urgent throughout the entire book, as if every line was a climactic scene.
If read by someone else, it would have been an excellent purchase.

All about the reader

The reader was hard to get around. It seemed like the whole time he was rushing the reading and everything was in fast forward.

Not excited about this one

Some books can just hit me in the wrong way as this one did. I greatly dislike books where you have people who act mean and spoiled, and definitely not in their best interests. Yet, they’re supposed to be a wonderful person whom everyone loves.

There were other small things, like she started off only eating salads, and pretty soon was eating pancakes and loved baking. He was supposed to be a big football star, but all he did was act petty, selfish and whiny.

I think the book could’ve been really good, except I just couldn’t get emotionally involved with these characters. The parents and siblings seemed really nice, so I might give the next book a chance.

In this book I just could not get myself to believe that they could be so mean, or accept mean spirited behavior and words, then immediately still be in love and getting married. This book seemed to be done in haste and with no great character development.

a bit predictable but still some good story moments. I'll try the next in the series and see how it goes.

Another great start to a series.

Lucas' family wants to get him out of his depression and back living his life. Emma has loved Lucas for a while, but never acted on her feelings. When the two are stranded together during a blizzard, sparks fly and Lucas comes out of his shell. But once he finds out his father was the mastermind behind Emma being out in the blizzard, will Lucas walk away feeling that he has been manipulated or will true love win in the end. This story was a great audiobook filled with characters from another family saga that is filled with heartwarming emotions and page turning plot. Cannot wait for more in this series.

Narrator is not good

I don’t know what it is but I just could not stand the narrator. He talked so rushed and loud at time. I slowed the narration down and it was too slow for me. I don’t know maybe it was the fact that a man was reading the book too. Women can sesquicentennial their voices to sound like a mans decently but a man cannot do the same for a woman’s voice.

Not my cup of tea

It's not a bad book, but the history is soooo simple and boring. I strugled to finish. Nothing to hold you to the history.

Every gals dream...

A lovely HEA. Unique background story but still a wealthy bad guy finds an average gal and they both figure out life. But I guess that's life. <shrug>.

Well written, well narrated, romantic, sexy but not erotica. The author rightly captured real life feelings for the MCs... refreshing.
