About this listen

The controller stood back. 'Right,' he said. 'Spin 'em!' The man flipped the piece of wood and the coins spun up into the air above his head and dropped down on to the carpet. There was silence.

Wake in Fright tells the tale of John Grant's journey into an alcoholic, sexual and spiritual nightmare. It is the original and the greatest outback horror story. Bundanyabba and its citizens will forever haunt its listeners.

This is well done and an interesting view of rural culture. But it seems dated given what has come to be mainstream today. I prefer Peter Temple’s writing on Australia. Check out any of Temple’s books if you liked the setting of this fine novel.

A masterpiece!
As good as the famous movie, if not better.
Warmly rcommended for all the people curious about Australia and its culture.

Great writing...

Suspenseful, makes you uncomfortable and then horrified. Good introduction to the brutality present in some rural areas among good ole boys.

Terrifying and perfect

Australia (also known as Straya) can be proud of this book as well as Bolinda Audiobooks. This is a great novel, a great reading, and Petern Temple gives us a great bonus sections at the end! Humphrey Bower reads Cook's classic so well you will want to laugh and vomit.

Are some Australians really like this? Yes.
