About this listen

A collection of 13 award-winning short stories (true crime/narrative nonfiction) concerning the true adventures of California fish and game wardens, and the wildlife-destroying outlaws they pursue. These stories illustrate the wide variety of wildlife-related problems wardens face in California, which has a greater diversity of wildlife and wildlife habitat than any other state and is second only to Alaska in its vast expanses of wilderness.

The eighth season contains 13 exciting true-story narrative adventures:

  • "A Matter of Survival"
  • "Some Kind of No Good"
  • "Payback Time"
  • "Drop-Countin' at Gunner's Swamp"
  • "Threats and Promises"
  • "An Extra Set of Eyes"
  • "Operation High Hog"
  • "Primal Instinct"
  • "Combat Fishing"
  • "Master of Destruction"
  • "The Ghosts of Tipper Slough"
  • "Leonard's Bad Word"
  • "Trophy Poacher"

This is a fantastic series by a former California Game Warden. Each volume is a series of stories of the brave men and women in charge of protecting our wildlife. The poachers and others they face are awful and too often don’t receive the punishment they deserve from some of the judges. I love listening to the creative ways the wardens plan and catch the bad guys in the act. The story of the loss of the wetland was truly heartbreaking. The audiobooks are a fantastic addition to the books. I hope we get more stories.
