Publisher's summary

Warden Force is a collection of award-winning short stories currently spanning seven volumes. Each story reveals the true adventures of California Fish and Game Wardens and the wildlife-destroying outlaws they pursue. These stories illustrate the wide variety of wildlife-related problems wardens face in California, which has a greater diversity of wildlife and wildlife habitat than any other state and is second only to Alaska in its vast expanses of wilderness.

"Skin-Head Fred": Wardens tangle with a murderous, meth-cooking, game-killing, Neo Nazi.

"Spreaders": Wardens target a highly intelligent, super-wary commercial lobster pirate.

"Deadly Intent": An alert warden stays alive and saves a life.

"The Poor Eyesight of Love": The arrest of a man and wife poaching team reminds wardens that love can indeed be blind.

"Ruthless": Crossbow-wielding, night-hunting outlaws face sly wardens who never give up.

"Ghost of the Feather": Salmon poachers on the Feather River mix it up with an old pro warden.

"Abalone Boy": An abalone-poaching commercial sea urchin diver earns his way into state prison.

"Anything but Cheap": A tough young warden targets ruthless, bear-killing houndsmen.

"Knock-and-Talks": A highly experienced, slick-talking warden outsmarts goose and deer poachers.

"Woody Peckerwood": A dumb crook story in which the dumb crook steals the wrong man’s boots.

"Kegger": Wardens break up a midnight keg party, and a gutsy college student becomes an instant legend.

"The Troubling Case of Walter Sumpter": A highly troubled teenager commits a terrifying crime with ominous implications.

Spellbinding true tails

Mr. Hodges tells captivating tales of game warden experiences. I sat in my car in the garage listening to the end of a chapter on more than one occasion! I enjoyed this book and look forward to more stories in the future.

Some Deadly Cases in this Edition

This is the last book in the Warden Force series. Some of the best cases were saved for last. It is another fascinating and frightening look into the life of a Game Warden. There are some hardcore bad guys in this edition and some cases will stay with you. I read this book using immersion reading while listening to the audiobook. Narration was wonderful and this is the last of the narrated books so far. I hope more will be done. An excellent read.

Warden Force is a Great Adventure in Short Stories

What I really appreciate about Warden Force is the way that Hodges captivates the reader in the beginning, develops engaging characters and ends each story with a twist and sometimes a shock.
Each story was thoroughly entertaining. It opened my eyes to the fantastic and often dangerous world of being a game warden.

Excellent real life nature thriller.

You can't fix stupid. So since you can't you have game wardens. One of the riskiest and loneliest positions to have they are out there daily to protect wildlife and ensure future generations are able to enjoy the resources and outdoor space. These are a few short episodes of some interesting cases they have come across in the field. As someone who loves the outdoors and used to work for the parks in a non-sworn capacity I can appreciate the stress and frustration these officers face as they attempt to gather evidence and convict these criminals who are intent on being selfish and ruining the resources for those law abiding citizens. I certainly enjoy the stories and in some cases comedy of errors (on the criminals part) as the officers deliver justice. Again you can't fix stupid, but you can fine, arrest, and convict it. The narration was spot on! I received a free review copy of this book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Cool stories

Surprisingly good detective / cop stories relating to wildlife, hunting and fishing crime in California. More to do with poaching and illegal activity by people than animals themselves. Brought to life by the narrator's serious voice and excellent characterizations.
