About this listen
I’m a trained cadet at the Warrior Academy on Haden. I’m female Hoganthan and full of feline ferocity. My squad and I are stretched to the limit, but will NOT. . . ever. . . opt out.
So, our instructors sent us on a final test exercise - I think to get rid of us and our attitude. . . or maybe just to get rid of MY attitude. Anyway.
That test turned out to be the easy part. Getting attacked again and again was a bit of a surprise, but hey, we’re warriors now. We’re used to it. That’s WHY we are at the Academy in the first place. Right?
But. . . being attacked by a Cren invasion force? Really? And, why did the Cren decide to invade Haden - home of the elite warriors of the galactic empire? What were they even thinking about?
Did they not think this through first? Or. . . did they have some other secret agenda? Hmm?
This feels like it is playing out like some channel space opera, or has some secret conspiracy element I’m just too dense to see. Whatever.
Well, they attacked my home and there is no way in Lor’s universe I’m going to allow them to succeed at that. After all, I have nowhere else to go. As a former Princess, it is the only home I have left and they aren’t going to get it. Ever.
Even if I have to steal a Cren ship and blow up their troop transport (but don’t tell them that).
So, yeah, realize we don’t ever give up. We are warrior cadets. Maybe not graduated space marines, but plenty ready for action - just ask us. Anyone of us will be more than happy to shove an assault barrel . . . never mind where. You get the idea.
And, we’ll give it to them full on, weapons hot, blazing away with every gram of power we have.
But, wait one.
I can handle the weirdness of the invasion - after all, we’re trained on ground and in space battle with every weapon imaginable, even when we have to make our own - but in the end. . . the thing I learn at the end. . . isn’t something I ever expected, not something I want, nor am even remotely prepared for.
This is not some metaphysical visionary thing. It is a solid, down to ground reality that I’m not prepared to handle.

Yes, I’m surprised, but I’m a warrior. . . and I’ll figure it out. That’s what warriors do.

Engaging story
A few spots were repeatative but easy to overlook considering the story is written for 12-18 year olds. I finished the book in one sitting. I listened to it on 2.0x speed and the narrator was great.
