Publisher's summary

With the staggering intensity of James Lee Burke and the absorbing narrative of Jane Harper's The Dry, We Begin at the End is a powerful novel about absolute love and the lengths we will go to keep our family safe. This is a story about good and evil and how life is lived somewhere in between.

You can't save someone that doesn't want to be saved....

For some people, trouble just finds them. Thirty years ago, Vincent King became a killer.

Now, he's been released from prison and is back in his hometown of Cape Haven, California. Not everyone is pleased to see him. Like Star Radley, his ex-girlfriend and sister of the girl he killed.

Duchess Radley, Star's 13-year-old daughter, is part-carer, part-protector to her younger brother, Robin - and to her deeply troubled mother. But in trying to protect Star, Duchess inadvertently sets off a chain of events that will have tragic consequences not only for her family, but also the whole town.

Murder, revenge, retribution.

How far can we run from the past when the past seems doomed to repeat itself?

Too Mant Charterers, Too Dark, Very Confusing

I bought this book because of all the 4 and 5 star reviews and I really regret the purchase. This book is not for everyone. Certainly not those like myself who read for inspiration, a different view point, a new perspective and possible even new solutions to old problems that can be applied to real life. And yes, I admit, even at times an escape from real life.
This book is none of that. It is dark and dismal. There are so many charterers you need a spreadsheet to keep track of who is who. This book was really a total waste of my time and I wonder why someone would even waste their time to write it. In addition to all the disappointment of the substance of the book, it is poorly written and at times very confusing. I had to rewind many time to determine who was saying what . At times also disjointed. Thank you to other reviewers who have mentioned the same-- at first I thought it was just me.
George Newbern did his best with a very poor book
