About this listen
Sarah Valentine is so over seeing drama about her city's superheroes on every newspaper and TV broadcast. Besides, she has her own problems to worry about: her career isn't going anywhere, she doesn't have a boyfriend (or any prospects), and most of her weekends are spent escaping into video games that are way more thrilling than anything that will ever happen to her.
And worst of all, her thirtieth birthday is right around the corner.
But everything changes the day she runs into Nate - a chance encounter with a handsome stranger that turns her quiet life upside down and throws her into the middle of a world of heroes, villains, and adventure.
In We Could Be Villains, Sarah learns that there's a very hazy line between the good guys and the bad guys. With the help of an unexpected journey, a motley team of professionals, and some eye-opening backstory about the heroes she's grown up watching, Sarah just might find the job, romance, and excitement she's been waiting for.

Story
Sinclair Rutherford is a young Seattle cop with a taste for the finer things. Doing menial tasks and getting hassled by superiors he doesn't respect are definitely not "finer things". Good police work and bad luck lead him to crack a case that changes quickly from a career-making break into a high-profile humiliation when footage of his pursuit of the suspect - wildly inappropriate murder weapon in hand - becomes an Internet sensation.

Story
It is the distant future, and Baird is a loner, a part time spy, and a notorious alleged thief. “Notorious” for the audacity of her crimes; “alleged” because nobody has ever been able to legally prove she committed any of them. When the hush-hush agency known as the Toolbox recruits Baird, being a clandestine operative seems like a great way to get paid to do what she already does anyway. That is, until a mission goes wrong, and Baird is infected with a deadly virus.

Ellingham Academy is a famous private school in Vermont for the brightest thinkers, inventors, and artists. It was founded by Albert Ellingham, an early 20th century tycoon, who wanted to make a wonderful place full of riddles, twisting pathways, and gardens. "A place", he said, "where learning is a game." Shortly after the school opened, his wife and daughter were kidnapped. The only real clue was a mocking riddle listing methods of murder, signed with the frightening pseudonym "Truly, Devious".

Not fully baked
Felt like the plot moved along without any real conflict, jeopardy or risks to our characters. A super-secret "evil" organization full of good guys (who only rob from rich people and power companies apparently, but destroy a YMCA without sending an anonymous donation?). A utopian island where everything is free and everyone works for no pay for the greater good and the core leadership takes on a new member with only the lightest of vetting. I won't be continuing this series.

terrible accents
Would you try another book from Missy Meyer and/or Kat Heiser?
would try another book by Missy Meyer but would avoid Kat Heiser narration at all costs
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
the start was very slow, would have made the start more dynamic
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Kat Heiser?
anyone who doesn't think an English accent is the same as either Australian or South African
What would have made this romance irresistible?
wasn't reading for the romance so nothing
Any additional comments?
If you're going to do an accent for a character then maybe you should check you can do that accent first rather than insult people with your terrible interpretation. Brits don't sound like a South African or an Australian, if you can't do the accent then just use your normal voice don't attempt it and get it so badly wrong it distracts from the story.

dull and slow
the book was dull and slow I've read quite a bit of superhero / super villain literature, and this one was the worst it doesn't do enough to make you feel as if this is a living breathing world.
