Rick Ziewig writes scripts for Cloud-9's artificial actors. Rick meets Diana in a coffee shop. She's an AI actor, but she's inhabiting a human body, a living crossover from one of Rick's fictional worlds. She's from a place where every story ever told is retold a thousand times. She's a creature born of the best and the worst products of the human imagination.
Cloud-9 gets hacked by the Louie. He's creating his own army of human AI slaves to do his bidding. His lab is onboard the luxury cruise ship Ariel. Agents from the Ariel run big wheel spins at Las Vegas casinos and charity poker night fund raisers. They see that desirable couples win the grand prize, an all expense paid Ariel Cruise. Once onboard, the Louie installs chips in the winner's brains and loads them with actor personality modules. They return from the Ariel Cortex Surgery Unit to their towns, jobs and homes to take up the lives of their victims.
Louie wants more control. He kidnaps Bula and Vonddra, key Cloud-9 programmers and forces them to recode the system to give Louie absolute control over his new actors. He can then use them to whatever end he desires. Rick and Diana's mission is to find Bula and Vondra and shut down the Ariel.
