About this listen

A brutal snowstorm traps five strangers in a remote cabin deep in the northern pines.

When mutilated animals, strange symbols, and violent visions begin to surface, it becomes clear something ancient is hunting them in the dark. An emaciated figure with antlers watches from the trees—silent, calculating, and starving.

As survival instincts turn to madness, the line between man and monster begins to blur. Inspired by real Native American folklore, this chilling cryptid horror thriller explores what happens when the cold sets in—and something colder follows.

Wendigo: Hunger in the Pines is Book 3 in the Cryptid Chronicles series by Ethan Blackwood, delivering high-stakes folklore horror perfect for fans of The Ritual and The Terror.

The novel tries really hard to terrify and use the legend of the Windigo in ways that should be very scary. Yet, the plot tries way too hard to add horrific elements that just don’t fit the storyline. So much of the story is forced and the author just crams details into the story in an effort to shock and horrify but demonstrates he isn’t talented enough to craft a smoothly evolving plot. Overall, it’s like a tale from someone in a state of mania. The bare bones of this story has potential, but it needs to be reworked greatly to be enjoyable. As it is, it takes a hard plodding effort to keep listening to the end.
