About this listen

Ronald Reagan carried a conservative vision of America to the White House, where his administration gave it life. Peggy Noonan followed Reagan to Washington as his speechwriter—and gave his vision voice. As speech writer for George Bush during his Presidential campaign, Noonan dispelled her candidate's "wimpy" image and replaced it with one of quiet strength by coining such eloquent phrases as "a thousand points of light" and "a kinder, gentler nation."

In the same vivid, eloquent style that earned Ronald Reagan the designation "the Great Communicator," Peggy Noonan delivers a candid portrait of the Reagan White House in this stylish, sensitive memoir that pursues the question, "Who's running things here anyway?"

Master writer and storyteller

Great book of a young lady in the heady days of history! She can really turn a phrase.

An inspiring story of the Reagan presidency

It was perfect but I would have preferred it to have been unabridged to get the whole story

Voice

The readers voice is not a good one for reading a book. She has something in the way she pronounces her words which is distracting.

Peggy Noonan's political life

What disappointed you about What I Saw At the Revolution?

it was abridged, I didn't see that when I selected it.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

that being said, the abridged version probably covered the nuts and bolts.

Which character – as performed by Peggy Noonan – was your favorite?

read by the author, she does a good job
