About this listen

Family secrets. Historical wrongs. And the truths that refuse to stay buried.

Savannah Webster is trying to find her way forward. She and her husband, Hez, have been separated since tragedy tore them apart and he began numbing his grief and guilt with alcohol. She returned to Tupelo Grove University, which her family helped found over a century ago, to teach history.

When Hez turns up in her classroom asking for a second chance, she rejects the idea immediately. But twenty-four hours later she’s under suspicion for murder, and since Hez is the best attorney she knows, she reluctantly asks him for help. They suspect the murder is tied to someone selling off the university’s pre-Columbian artifacts, but the secrets go much deeper than they realize.

The only hope they’ve got is each other, and they’re going to have to put their past behind them if they’re going to stay alive long enough to uncover all that’s hidden.

What a gem! This was a fast paced mystery thriller. I couldn't put it down! I was pleasantly surprised with the seamless co-authorship. There are so many twists and secrets! You will be surprised all the way to the end! 5/5⭐s Excellent book, I look forward to more.

Ok, but…

The overall story was ok, but the relationship portion took up too much bandwidth and was quite annoying. They also weave in a lot of religion, which is not my bag.

I typically love reading anything by Colleen Coble & so this book was not a huge surprise. This was a great suspense book, although the ending left me wanting for more…

More twists and turns than a corkscrew and definitely a roller-coaster!

This story kept me guessing right up until the end! A real page-turner! (Or in the case of Audible, a "just one more minute; just another chapter" kinda book!

1.5 speed

I made it to the end and enjoyed most of the book. But when Savannah rambled on and on and on about her feelings for Hez or vice versa, I couldn't help all my eye rolling and could barely stand to listen. All of the guessing about what the other person MIGHT be thinking and never questioning the other person was ridiculous. During those parts I nearly doubled the speed of narration to get past those sections. The epilogue was interesting. Excellent narration.

Clean writing .

I loved being able to enjoy a great story without the foul language, drugs, and explicit sexual content. Thank you Colleen Coble for your novel. Anxiously waiting for book 2 in this series.
My next series will be about the upper peninsula.
I pray you have the scriptures in the other novels as well. I jot them down in a book and on my notes app only cell.
Thank you,
Iona M Lewis

Too long

There came a point where I thought this book would never end. The plot was fairly predictable.
