About this listen

Follow Edward Lorn out of the light and into the darkest recesses of his mind.

What the Dark Brings is a collection of 19 short stories, beginning with "Literary Sweets," a tender jaunt into Christmastime that proves all is not lost for one jaded gentleman. But by the time you reach the final tale, "Come to Jesus Meeting," the darkness is all encompassing.

Tales of hope, heartache, and horror abound.

Interesting Stories Made Better By Narration

If you could sum up What the Dark Brings in three words, what would they be?

Eclectic, Interesting, Different

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Since this was a collection of short stories, it wasn't a 'typical' ending. But interesting to say the least

Have you listened to any of Richard Bryant’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

First Richard Bryant book I've listened to.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes. Very much so.

Any additional comments?

The narrator is outstanding. To be completely honest, although some of the stories are quite interesting and have potential, Richard brings all of the 'guests to this party'. Through the rich narration, it is easy to 'see the film' run in my head, which is something only very good storytellers can accomplish. Richard's ability to separate character voices is a skill that narrators must possess in order to bring life to stories effectively. Every character voice is done very well and brings a unique life to this collection of stories. His laid back, natural way of delivering the lines is very addictive to listen to, making it very easy to listen to the entire audiobook in one sitting.

Pretty damn good story!

What did you love best about What the Dark Brings?

I thought the story was well thought out and developed

What other book might you compare What the Dark Brings to and why?

Not really sure that I could place it with anything off hand

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

My only complaint with this audible book is the narrator and to be %100 honest Im not sure exactly what it was I didnt like about him. I am going to let my wife listen to it to see if maybe it was simply a personal thing. If thats the case i will come back and change my review

Review

I liked the stories but could have done without the added human sound effects

You can't go wrong with Lorn

There are some excellent stories here. Some horror, some bizarre, most pretty dark and all very well done. As a format, I struggle with short stories on occasion, but Mr. Lorn seems to thrive here. Highly Recommended. A solid 4.5+ Star collection! 22 tales of terror and an excellent narrator. Sweet!

Multiple Scary Stories

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I don't know. I'm having a difficult time understanding this book. And I received this audiobook free of charge in exchange for an unbiased review.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

It's just multiple stories that I can't tell where they begin or end.

What does Richard Bryant bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Richard Bryant has good narration skills and is great with the british accent.

Did What the Dark Brings inspire you to do anything?

No I wasn't inspired to do anything. It seemed negative and dark.

Any additional comments?

I would still give the author and especially the narrator another chance. This just wasn't a book for me.
