About this listen

"Though St. John the Evangelist saw many strange monsters in his vision, he saw no creature so wild as one of his own commentators." (G.K. Chesterton)

The book of Revelation was written to do just that: reveal. But most commentaries nowadays either engage in bizarre speculations about the future, or they keep an embarrassed distance from all the apocalyptic events that the apostle John says will “shortly take place”.

In this commentary, Douglas Wilson provides a passage-by-passage walkthrough of the entire book, showing how John’s most notorious prophecies concern the Fall of Jerusalem in AD 70. Explaining symbols and characters as he goes, Wilson shows from the text that not only is this book not an elaborate code, but that Revelation is not even ultimately concerned with the end of the world as we know it. Revelation is about the triumph of the Church, which always happens when the Man comes around.

A Concise Partial-Preterist Commentary

Douglas Wilson's "When the Man Comes Around" is a great guide for those exploring a partial-preterist and postmillennial perspective on Revelation. Offering insightful commentary, it unravels the complexities of the book, making it an essential read for those seeking a comprehensive understanding of these nuanced theological views.

Insightful

This is a refreshing commentary on a difficult book. I’m working my way through different interpretations of Revelation, and Wilson does an excellent job of presenting the Preterist view. Much appreciated!

Helped me understand revelation

Douglas Wilson has a talent for explaining complex issues, in a rudimentary way. Or maybe a better way of saying it, he can explain things to rudimentary listeners like myself. I learned many things from this audio book. I think it's awesome Doug narrates his own writings.

Too quickly paced

Content is excellent, speed is a little too high for something that is going to hit most readers right out of left field but overall it’s very good.

This is an Excellent study of a difficult book!

This is an excellent study of a difficult book. The author is coming from a different position than the majority of theologians but presents his study in an understandable way. I enjoyed it.

Excellent content, a little sleepy

The preterist view is new to me, but I found this compelling, at least up to chapter 19. The content is great, filled with cross references of the Gospels and the Prophets to help explain his position. Only complaint is that the narration was a little sleepy and lacked the life and inflation that I hear in Mr. Wilson’s podcasts.
