Publisher's summary

In a tiny town on the coast of Lancashire, Lily Brown is trying to hold her world together.

With England in the throes of World War II, her alcoholic father a prisoner overseas, and her mother struggling to make ends meet, she is convinced marrying her wealthy suitor is the best way to take care of her family.

Until a blue-eyed American soldier turns her life upside-down.

Based on a true story, this beautifully researched biographical novel follows Lily’s journey as she finds herself torn between the country she loves and the man who has stolen her heart. Haunted by dark memories, afraid of putting aside her own plans, and faced with a future nothing like what she expected, will she find the courage and faith to forge a new life in America?

Or will she let her fears - and the past she can’t let go of - destroy her chance for happiness with the man who adores her?

Christian Historical Romance

An incredible story made even more impressive because it's true! As told by their child with missing gaps filled in by friends of the family, you'll also be enthralled by the difficulties they fought, to be together, and how the Lord helped them build a life and a home in America after WWII.

Interesting story

It is nice to read a story about undying love. Young star-crossed lovers of today can take a lesson from this couple. Even though times were hard, they made it through trial by fire and came out on the other side all the stronger and deeper in love by their experiences.

Daffodil blooms are like love. They are fresh and beautiful and everyone loves them until they fade and all that is left is the bulbs below ground. The bulbs represent commitment being nurtured by the soil getting ready to bloom all again. They don't give up just like in love, we should not give up.

Great story. Wonderful Narrator

This was a wonderful story based on a real family. I enjoy hearing stories about WW II and it’s affect on civilians who lives in those times. The narrator was excellent , beautiful voice and she artfully managed a slew of characters with different dialects.Highly recommend.

Good book, not great

Chapters 30-44 out of order therefore difficult to follow. Narrator difficulty to listen to at times.

Storytelling at it’s finest

The men and women that were a part of the WWII effort and their families that were affected by the war deserve to have their stories told especially before they are all long forgotten. This story is so much more than that. It is full of life lessons and teaches us the importance of Faith. God Bless the storytellers.
