About this listen

When life stops making sense, it’s time to raise the anchor and follow the tide.

Twenty-two years of marriage, and all Becca Larkin’s divorce settlement includes is a live-aboard sailboat and a huge helping of heartache.

So when normally cautious Becca proposes a girls’ trip with her daughter, Liv, boating from Maine to a ready buyer for the boat in Miami, it seems like a recipe for a fun summer and a fresh start. After all, how hard can this sailing thing be?

Enter Grant Murphy, a stunning Irish sailing coach that Liv can barely stand—and Becca can’t seem to resist. Grant’s too young for Becca, but he’s insightful and kind, and his passion for sailing is contagious. Through his eyes, Becca sees for the first time in years a future she might want to navigate toward.

There are seventeen hundred miles between Maine and Miami, but the journey Becca’s on can’t be charted on any map. And the only way to get there is to hoist the sails and throw caution to the wind. From the bestselling author of The Overdue Life of Amy Byler comes a sparkling novel about mothers and daughters, change and escape, and learning to love again.

Want to go to sea in a sailboat?

This was fun, and sad. Good story about a woman finding herself. I enjoyed the sailing and the learning experience. When I was young, I would have loved to do it.

This is a nice light read

Loved the relationship between Mom and daughter. The growth in both characters and personality is inspiring.

Might have enjoyed reading this story more

At first I thought the story was to quite predictable, but there were a lot of loops that I did not anticipate.

I normally love listening to audiobooks, and I don’t want to dismiss Angela Lin’s performance, but it didn’t fit. She did better voicing the secondary characters than the main one, and it split my reaction to the story.

So I’d absolutely recommend reading this book.

Some Good Moments

Both the story & the narration had some good moments that made the listening worth it. Kelly Harms is an author I usually love!

I enjoyed it more than I didn't

If you are someone who enjoys sailing or wants to learn about sailing this book is probably very enjoyable, with lots and lots and LOTS of sailing terminology and specifics.
I don't sail, and it was a bit much, but I do enjoy travel, and scuba diving, so I enjoyed that 98% of this book takes place on the ocean, and covers several places that I've visited.
I can't say that I loved the book, but I did enjoy it more than I didn't, and I did love the ending , so it was worth the credit overall.

All good feelings plus the ocean

I’ve been waiting for this book to be released and it was just as amazing as I’d been anticipating. I love how feel good her books are. My favorite author 🥰

Story is alright but characters are kind of annoying

The story in general was okay it’s just a lot of self deprecation from the main character and the daughter is super annoying. The story is supposed to be the main character finding herself but the whole time she’s just complaining and judging herself.

Slow but ended nicely

Very slow to begin with… some very ridiculous plot changes that just DID NOT flow with character development. But it ended nicely and made this 40 something reader cheer for the protagonist.

Wonderful story

Kelly Harms has done it again. Wherever the Wind Takes Us is a brilliant story of a woman finding herself after all that she thought was her identity had changed. I think all women can relate to these moments in our life when we are trying to figure out what these changes in our identity mean.

not sure if...

it was the narrator or the main character who was whiney. I fast forwarded through some parts because of it .
