Publisher's summary

He’s tried everything to make the pain go away… except him.

Sam refuses to let his traumatising past dictate his future, so embraces life to the fullest. Stable, independent and attracted to a Guardian who’s off limits, Sam couldn’t be happier... until his father comes back from the dead.

Facing memories he’s suppressed from childhood, and a new threat he never saw coming, Sam struggles to keep the life he’s built from crumbling.

Cursed as a child and scarred from addiction, Axel never thought his life could get much worse. Until the poison that helps relieve his pain starts to affect his work, the sole reason for his existence.

With nothing else to lose, he finally gives into his desire that he’s suppressed for so long, breaking his celibacy with the one man he's always wanted. But he quickly figures out there’s something dark lurking in the shadows, ready to test his control.

As everything unfolds Axel must decide what’s more important, Sam's life, or his own.

Sam Finally Gets a Story!!!!!

Rating 4.5 stars.
This is an MM book, meaning that, yes the two leads are both of the same gender and with the same parts.

I'm so happy that Sam gets his own story!! He was such an amazing character in the Alice Skye series (not necessary to read before this, but you should!) and I loved that he finally gets his own happiness!! Sam's friendship with Alice was incredible and I liked her inclusion more in this story (because she's one of my favorite characters and I'm pretty biased towards her). He has had a rough life and spent years in therapy and then a visit from his sperm donor and his life went sideways. But he's a trooper and doesn't want to owe anyone anything and tries to handle it on his own (he does have a trusty wing-man to help him out in some cases). I liked how he was given depth and wasn't just a generic abused character floating threw life with sex. I also liked how he and Axel had their ups and downs and how they both had to overcome pretty big issues.
Axel has obviously had some ups and downs as well in his life, from being a Guardian to being half a succubus who's celibate (oh the irony). He tries to hide his addiction and I appreciated the callout by Hunter (Kace's all but adopted kid) about his behavior. But sometimes, it takes more than a 14 year old to help you get your head on straight.
This is a story I practically devoured! The story flows almost seamlessly from one scene to the next and I really couldn't stop reading once I got started. It's told in third person POV from both lead characters.

This book is proof that Lucy deserves his own story. He was amazing in this. He was a true friend to Sam and helped Axel see what's right in front of him. Plus he had some really great one-liners!

This is part of a series and must be read in order. While each story can be read on its own, the overarching storyline needs the books to be read in order or you will be completely lost.
This series is also set in the same world as the Alice Skye series and I highly recommend reading that before enjoying this series and it helps with understanding the world the author has created.

CW: Assault, violence, gory, drug use (on page), and implied SA of a child (off page).

I liked the narrators! I really liked the job DB West did for Sam, I thought he really helped bring Sam's character to life. I had some trouble connecting with Holden Maddox, maybe it's his style of narration. I liked his voice, but had a little trouble connecting with the characters during his chapters. However, it did not detract from the story, and they both do have nice voices. I listened at 1.2x speed.

Book 3

Axel used drugs as a way to relieve pain until they started interfering with his work. Sam, a temptation Axel had long desired, remained out of reach as Axel maintained celibacy. However, after taking a new drug, Axel's inner beast took over, and he succumbed to the temptation of Sam, making it even harder to resist. Now, with Sam taken, Axel is determined to do anything to get him back and make him his own.

Whisper of Fate

Whisper of Fate is the 3rd book in the Curse of the Guardian series. This book is a M/M paranormal romance book. This book is about Axel and Sam and is told from both of their points of view.

Axel has been used to masking his pain, but when it doesn't work he gives in to his desires with Sam. When something happens to Sam, Axel will do anything to get Sam back, including trading his soul.

Will Sam and Axel get their happy ending? This book had some twists and turns I didn't see coming, and I am excited to start the next book in the series.

Axel and Sam

Axel and Sam
Narrators 3.5*
Story 4*

This was an entertaing story to listen to my only complaint would be Sam's character the narration was low so i had to keep adjusting the volume so i could hear it. It's a bit of a slow start then it picks up. When Axel and Sam give in to the temptation and Axel breaks his celebecy is hot and sexy. I also found the part where Axel who has been treating his pain with drugs figures out the reason he was in pain. Can't wait to listen to the next story.

Curse of the Guardians, Book 3

I have really enjoyed this series. Though I do plan to go back and listen to the Alice Skye series to get the full immersion experience. This series is a spin- off from the Alice Skye series that is written by the same author. I started with this series. (Though, I was a little lost with the first book of the series, I quickly caught up in the first few chapters of the first book- Kiss of Darkness.) This book is centered around a m/m couple, Axel and Sam. Axel is one of the Guardians that has denied part of his heritage that ultimately leads him to develop a drug addiction, while Sam, who is Alice (from the first series)'s best friend/adopted sister, must face his neglected and abused past that comes back to bite him in the butt. There is lots of action and fight scenes with the bad guys that I find quite entertaining. Though there is some sexy time, it is appropriately placed and does not take over the storyline as some paranormal romances tend to do. The narrators do a fantastic job with all the different voices. I especially like that previous characters are continued in the storyline. I would recommend starting with the Alice Skye series if you want the full storyline.

Beautiful, I will never listen to an audiobook the same again!

I have read and listened to the corresponding audiobook to several books now. I have loved every single one from Taylor!

But this Audiobook has gained a special place in my heart! DB West and Holden Maddox did an OUTSTANDING job portraying the characters!

I hope to hear more from Holden as he gave so much emotion to the story that I couldn’t help but felt it myself.

Thank you Taylor for writing this! A book that has real life problems and shows that you can overcome with the love of those around you! I love the dynamic of Sam and Axel, as well as the true family feel between Axel and Ti!

Definitely worth the listen! Just make sure you’ve got tissues and a fan because you will get all the feels! 💕😉

Book 3....

I enjoyed listening to this book/series. It was by no means my favorite, but it was okay. I feel like it was kind of hard for me to listen to because of how soft-spoken both the narrators are. But that's partly my fault because I listen on speakers while I am doing things around the house or throwing the ball for the dog. I'd probably do better if I broke out the headphones. But the storyline was pretty good. I felt it was fairly original and kept my attention pretty well. I was grateful that they were written as standalones, but they were still connected. Sometimes I take breaks between books because I have to read or listen to something else. So being able to pick up a book without feeling like I missed something because I can't remember the previous book was definitely helpful. (I usually don't forget much; I just think I do lol). Overall, I enjoyed my time listening to this series so far, and I look forward to listening to the next one! :)

This was just okay

I’m not really feeling this one. I don’t see the chemistry and the storyline is a little lacking. Maybe it’s just me. As for the narrator it was decent. Some part was hard to listen too.

Book 3 - Curse of the Guardians

This is book 3 in White's Curse of the Guardians series. A well written and wonderfully narrated paranormal romance that while book 3 in the series can be read / listened to as a standalone. Definitely dark themes addressed, and this is a M/M romance and while that is not normally something I seek out I have listened to all the books in this series thus far and didn't want to miss Axle and Sam's story. The storyline itself was a little harder for me to follow - it's one that you kind of have to pay attention to as you listen, and I have a hard time doing that as I'm often pulled in different directions so for me it wasn't as easy to follow as it would be otherwise. I did like the characters and all the different family dynamics that were depicted in this read. Overall, I found it to be a good, and intense listen.

This book was given to me for free at my request and I voluntarily provided this review.
