About this listen

Grace never imagined that cryptic letters—and her clever cat, Whiskers—would pull her into Maple Hollow’s darkest secrets.

Beneath the town’s peaceful exterior, an ancient experiment threatens to tear reality apart.

With Parker, a wounded but determined ally, and the mysterious Margaret, long thought dead, Grace must race against time. A dangerous force is buried deep, and ruthless enemies will stop at nothing to silence her.

In a final, pulse-pounding showdown, Grace must crack the letters’ hidden clues to prevent catastrophe. But even when the experiment is shut down, something far more sinister still stirs beneath Maple Hollow.

I was gifted an Audible version of this book from the author through Story Origin. The narrator did an excellent job presenting this mystery. She brought lots of excitement and feels to the action. 5 stars for her. Unfortunately the story was very repetitive and it even got boring for me. Grace finds some letters that hold town secrets. Then spends the whole time on the run from "bad guys" that want the letters. So lots of action. Lots of excitement. Just how many ways can she evade harm and danger? Her cat rescues her several times. Then it finishes out with it still not all resolved.

Grace saves the letters.

Whispers In Maple Hollow: A Whimsy Café Mystery with Detective Paws
is a book in the Whimsy Cafe Mystery series by Dana Sharp.

This book jumped right in with a dead body and Grace and her cat, Whiskers, finding letters that people want to get to take from her. There wasn’t any kind of set up or introduction. I went to see if there was an earlier book in the series that I missed and I restarted the book because I thought I might’ve missed part of it. It essentially is a book of being chased by people who wanted the letters and the cat saving her. There’s a lot of repetition both in the being chased and escaping and in using phrases over and over. I think the narrator did a good job with making the material she had interesting.

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Since it was an audiobook it was hard to see any “grammar or spelling mistake”. But there were a few words that sounded misspelled. Maybe a different part of the country, it just grayed on me when I heard it. Like debris— sounded like debriss. Weird huh? The only issue I had with the content itself was how many times some things were repeated over and over. “We’d gone too far to give up now” etc. every couple sentences.
The chase scenario was a little unbelievable
It was a fairly quick listen. .
First read by this author so maybe she improves. I will try again before I give up on her.
This was an ARC from the StoryOrigin site. This is my freely given review and opinion is all my own.

The book started and I thought I had mistakenly started in the middle. It didn’t even make sense. There was no plot, just Grace being chased by mysterious entities. I wasted my time listening to it. The narration was good.

Terrible

This was my first experience with this author's work. I was entertained by the story; however, there was a lot of repetition in the descriptive phrases of the settings, and in the events which occurred. I liked Grace, and I loved her cat. I thought Terra Hicks' narration was great, and her performance enhanced the story's entertainment. I was given a copy of the audiobook. I volunteered, without financial gain, to post this review which reflected my honest opinions regarding this audiobook.

Unfortunately this book was not very interesting. The narrator tried their best but there wasn't much to work with in my opinion. Grace finds some mysterious letters with the help of her cat and then spends rest of story running, with her cat, from others who want these letters. Her cat saves her numerous times while she keeps running from the bad guys who always know exactly where she is. This action is repeated, repeated again, and then repeated consistently till the end. There is not much background given to really care about any of the characters. After suffering from all this repetition, the story does not end in satisfying manner, more of a cliffhanger. I ended up listening at 2x speed to move story along.
